Phone usage in OB waiting room

Why is it necessary? I mean...seriously. And to make matters worse, why do the offenders always talk really loud and about nothing at all? At my appt today, I had to hear about this lame girl's high cell phone bill (I can help you with that!), her husband's desire for an AK47 (hey, I know what he can do with it!), and mounds of trivial other things. It's just an annoyance that should be stopped.

Re: Phone usage in OB waiting room

  • Yes now you know WHY he needs that AK47.  although everyone needs an assult rifle dont they? Indifferent

  • People are so rude and clueless! That is one of my big annoyances too. If it's important, then that's one thing but come one some things can wait.
  • my OB has signs all over saying not to use phone inside office.  Not that it gets enforced because I have had to listen to lame conversations while sitting there waiting.

I hate that too.  Step outside if you HAVE to use your phone, but don't sit there and just chat aimlessly.
  • what a genuis. you cant buy an ak47 - only ar15s which are not techincally assault rifles, but the civilian version. assault rifles were banned a long time ago.
  • HATE that, Jennifer.

My OB's office also has a sign asking patients to not use a cell phone. In fact, the medical building has signs to not use it at indoors in hallways. The only way I'd use the phone would be if something was wrong and I'd ask if I could use the doctor's office to call my husband. Hopefully I'll never have to do that.

At least she wan't discussing her nether regions or any other OBGYN-associated issue... that would have been hilarious, though.

  • People are rude and stupid.  I'm suprised that a nurse or receptionist didn't say something to her.  They yell at people at my Dr.'s office.  The cell signal messes with the doppler thing.....the thing they use to hear the heart beat.
  • I can't stand this either, happens at my doctors all the time. My DH was annoyed yesterday too b/c he was trying to do an EKG on a patient, and the patient was trying to answer their phone, and telling him to wait in the middle of the procedure. Some people thinks life revolves around them.

  • how bout this one -

last time i was home visiting my mom, was in motherhood trying on clothes, and the chick in the next fitting room was on SPEAKERPHONE with her friend. and since the girl was busy trying on clothes and couldn't hold a conversation at the same time, her friend got bored or something on the phone and decided to start SINGING! (umm, did it not occur to either one of them to continue the chat later?!) then the friend started telling the girl about some guy they knew who either had the same name as or was the person wanted by police for his involvement in a shooting that had happened the day before.

i hurried up and got dressed and told my mom & sis, quite loudly, "let's get out of here. i've had enough of this annoying blitch on her cell phone." i know she heard me, and i didn't care!

  • My moody-ass would have said, "God, shut UP!!!" right to her without skipping a beat!
  • My doc's office has the "no cell phone use" signs, too, and I am never really sure what that means.  (don't flame just yet)  I know with privacy concerns that some people don't want them out at all (can't take cell phone photos, etc.), but I can't imagine that's what they mean.  Anyway, I never use mine to talk and would be annoyed by anyone who did, but I do play with my iPhone while I am sitting there.  I have not been scolded for that ... yet.
  • I always wonder why people want everyone hearing their personal conversations.  Sometimes people talk about things that I would not want strangers knowing about me.

On a similar note.  I was sitting at the OB during my Glucose test yesterday and there was a couple fighting about money ($35 to be exact) right there in the doorway.  She actually stood in the doorway while he was outside and they argued back and forth.

Domestically produced semi-automatic AK-47s are legal within the United States, although some states/cities still have restrictions on them. Most states allow you to own automatic weapons that were registered before the ban was enacted. You just have to pay a $200 Federal Excise Tax, and you have to get a signature from a law enforcement official, like a Sheriff or judge.

But back on topic, I keep managing to have an appointment around the same time as someone who uses speakerphone and moves the phone back and forth between their ear and their mouth. The last time I couldn't hear DH talking to me over her, so I very loudly commenting about it. She gave me a dirty look but left the waiting room.
