Hi everyone -
My final depo shot expires today, so as of tomorrow I'll be off B/C and actively TTC. However, I'm well aware that it can take up to 2 years to conceive after Depo - I'm being optimistic that I won't be one of those unfortunate ladies with this struggle.
Immediately after getting my first Depo shot in January, 2008, I had a terrible explosion of cystic acne on my back that has not cleared up no matter what I've tried. It has persisted ever since. Now, this morning I wake up, and it has cleared up almost overnight.
So, I'm staring to think - perhaps I'm lucky, and the progesterone (which I know caused the cystic acne) is already starting to leave my system, and I might not have to wait the 6 months - 2 years to successfully conceive.
Has anyone else out there had anything similar happen? Maybe I'm just grasping at any possible sign of hope.
Thanks for reading.
Re: Maybe I'm just being an optimist...(Depo related)
How do you know that is caused the acne and why wouldn't you have switched BC?
If you start temping you can figure out pretty quickly if it still in your system as your temps will be all over the place (look at my oct cycle compared to my current one). Some people can get pregnant right away, others can't. It took me over a year to even ovulate.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
there are few girls on here that have used Depo shots as a form of BC, but you might want to put that in the subject of your post or they may not respond. yes you do sound very optimistic, which isn't a bad thing,as long as you're realistic.
do you plan on charting, have you read Taking Charge of Your fertility, or checked out Fertilityfriend.com?
the most important thing after going off bcp is too find out if you're ovulating.
Hi ladies -
I had been on the BCP for 9 years when I switched to Depo. That's how I know the Depo caused the skin issues, as it happened within a day of the injection. I didn't switch because I enjoyed the convenience, and that was just a minor irritation in the grand scheme.
I have been charting, and my-oh-my are my temps wild! I plan on continuing to chart to see when my temperatures regulate.
I'm just looking for some positivity, since I know what I could be up against.
Thanks for your helpful responses!
I was on Depo for years longer than I should have been.
The adjustment of coming off Depo can be very hard. I had severe cramping and horrible headaches for several weeks. my GYN told me that some women spot right away, some get their periods after a month, and some take a year or longer. Every body is different. IMO, the best thing you can do is read TCOYF, chart, and try not to stress wodering "when will I be fertile again". You have absolutely no control over which way your body is going to go- so the best thing you can do is just pay attention to what your body is telling you.

That's the idea! That's why I'm being optimistic about the acne clearing up...just hoping it can be a sign of good things to come.
I will continue charting, checking CM, and realizing it's not in my control...and see what happens!
I am going to be mature here and say I HATE FREAKIN DEPO!!!!!!!!!!

LOL. I have liked it for what it did - no cycles, no worries, etc. I went into it understanding the potentially long-term implications. But then, I wasn't anticipating being bitten by the baby bug out of nowhere!
