Swine flu- anyone else concerned.....

I am trying not to freak out, but we are suppose to go to Texas in a few weeks. Guess I am mostly worried about being pregnant and at a bit more at risk of contracting any illness, swine flu included.......and planes are such an enclosed area.......

Bummer......

Re: Swine flu- anyone else concerned.....

  • If you are really freaked order a nanomask for the plane.

Just be prepared to look really silly.

  • You might consider wearing a mask on the plane.  I have gotten sick so many times right after a flight.  People are always sick, coughing, sneezing.

  • - I think Ill be ok- Im a loong ways away from the south-

    and I dont travel...

    jee am I lame!

Im sure you will be ok though! just take extra precautions if you're nervous!

  • Bring a bottle of hand sanitizer and use it frequently.  Or sanitizer wipes so you can wipe off the seats and tray tables on the plane.
  • I wouldn't be to concerned about going to TX. There has only been 2 cases of it there.  You can always wear a mask on the plane, I would put money on it that you won't be the only one if they don't get this under controll soon!
  • Not really, It is not so much more dangerous than regular flu. ?It's just an odd time for flu. ?Wash your hands, try not to handle money, wear a mask in public transportation. ?I also started to make my DH take airborne everyday now so he can avoid getting sick and bringing it home to me.
  • I am a tad bit concerned.  I live by the Mexican Border in Texas.  Also, my H is a Border Patrol agent who deals with illegal aliens on a daily basis who are not in the best health.  However, I am more concerned about TB!

Texas has 6 confirmed cases. Dallas and San Antonio have been hit. Houston has a suspected case. There are a lot of people that travel between Texas and Mexico. This is going to keep spreading. Any type of flu can be devastating for a fetus. If you don't have to come to Texas, then I would avoid it. Especially if it means getting on a plane!

    This.

If you listen to the interviews that many Drs have given they are stating that this is just a different strain of influenza that has been around for a long time. Just like normal influenza some people don't get their flu shot, may have weakened immune systems, or may just wait to see a Dr until it's too late - or any mixture of these. If you take the normal precautions for the flu and aren't in close contact with people who may be sick then you should be fine.

  • I wouldn't be anymore concerned about traveling to TX than I would being anywhere else.  If it truly reaches pandemic proportions, it'll spread beyond the Southwest.  If not, then it's more likely you'll get into an accident driving to the airport than that you'll contract swine flu.
  • I would not worry about going to TX.  I don't think there has been enough occurances to be scared.

I, however, am suposed to be going on a cruise to Mexico leaving May 7th. The cruise line is not cancelling or rerouting any of its boats because there have not been oat breaks at any of their ports.  My doctor advised against going, but it just sucks to lose the $$ we all spent on the trip.  But, baby is way more important!!

  • I stumbled upon this article at MSN this morning.  Hopefully you can open it with this link.  I think the media latches onto this stuff and just goes crazy with it.  I don't think it's anything to get too concerned over.

  • I am offically FREAKNG OUT!! I live in South Texas and we have already had reports in the county I live in.

I'm supposed to fly to South Carolina in two weeks out of Houston and I plan on wearing a mask. I don't care how stupid I look.

I'm happy I can still eat bacon!!!!

According to the CDC website, they only have 2 confirmed cases.  That might have changed and they didn't update their website, so who knows!
