Chicago ladies?

DH and I are toying with the idea of going to Chicago in late May/ early June. BIL lives out there with his GF and the thought of some delicious Chicago style pizza fills me with giddyness. What other fun stuff do you recommend?

Re: Chicago ladies?

  • hi Lexi! I'm not from Chicago, but my work's conference was there last August, and I loved it!! I usually get homesick, but Chicago was really cool.. Anyways, you have to go shopping on Michigan Ave, ride the ferris wheel on Navy Pier, and drive through a White Castle Burger - they're not good, but you might as well try it while you're there (they're better after a night of drinking). Two of my co-workers did a walking food tour downtown and loved it. I was bummed I missed that. :)

  • Go to Gino's or Connies for Pizza

You should go to Navy Pier, Lincoln Park Zoo (free!) "Mag Mile" ( Michigan Ave), Brookfield Zoo, Museum of Science & Industry,  Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium,  Sox or Cubs Game.

You could also see a show in Chicago.

You could also pop on over the border to Indiana and see

The Indiana Dunes or Fair Oaks Farm (an awesome Dairy Farm)

  • Shopping on Michigan Ave, visiting Navy Pier, having a martini at the top of the Hancock Observatory, going on a wendella boat tour (as seen in My Best Friend's Wedding), going for apps and wine at Jilly's Piano Bar, walking around the Lincoln Park Zoo (it is free! gorilla exhibit is a must-see!), sun bathing on Lake Michigan, going for a ghost tour at night, getting a hot dog at Super Dog, getting beef at Al's...

Chicago is beautiful this time of year. You should definitely visit! :)

  • The only correct answer for pizza is Giordano's.  Stick out tongue

Definitely hit Navy Pier- don't park there, though ($27!).  The Ferris Wheel is really great.  And, hey, you can walk to a Giordano's from there!

If you like museums, the Chicago ones are top-notch.  The Art Institute, Museum of Science and Industry, Museum of Natural History, the Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium are all great.

The Lincoln Park Zoo is nice to walk through.

Lincoln Park has good boutique shopping (and I like a restaurant there called Minnie's).  Then there's the mag mile.

Stop by the Buckingham Fountain, too!  Check that it is open first (before you leave).

There is a nice view from the Hancock Observatory in the Hancock Tower.  Which is good, if you can't deal with calling the Sears Tower Willis Tower, like me.  Wink

Superdawg is the best hot dog- we go out of our way for it.  Might not be accessible for you, though.  Worth checking.

    Have fun!

  • Everyone above hit the well known tourist spots

Giordanos has a great crust but I've had better fillings. Here are some other famous pizza spots: Lou Malnati's, Gino's East and last but not least my favorite spot: Pequod's. Good crust, hearty toppings but the sauce is to die for. Seriously amazing.

I always take out of town friends to a little gem in Andersonville called Hopleaf. They rave about it for months on end. They have amazing Belgian ales on tap and the food is great. If you want to visit Lincoln Park neighborhood visit the Armitage/Halsted area for some great shopping. For some real eye candy hit up Oak Street downtown (Barneys, Harry Winston ect...). In Lakeview hit up Southport Lanes for bowling

Try to see a game at Wrigley. Walk or take a jog on the lakefront. We usually take out our bicycles and go picnic when warm. Chicago is an amazing place to visit in the summer!

  • I found the easiest way to tour the city was to go on one of those bus tours. You buy one ticket (per person) and can hop on and off as many of the buses as you wish. They stop at all the prime tourist and shopping places.

Here is a website for the company we used: Bus tour site.

It lists the stops as well.

Hope you have a great time. Big Smile

  • You've been given some great info so far! ?I have to add my 2 cents about pizza, though - you must go to Lou Malnati's!! ?The architectural boat tours are fantastic, too. ?And, historic Wrigley Field is a must. ?Even if the Cubs aren't in town, you could still go on a tour.

  • Hard to say weather wise, for example it was 80 ysterday and low 50s today! Watch the weather reports as it gets closer to your trip. We are one of hose cities that if you don't like the weather, wait 30 min and it can change. ;)
  • Thanks everyone, we now have to go to all those pizza places. I don't mind Stick out tongue
