This time around i'm trying to correct the "mistakes" i had w/ my 1st son. I am going to put alot of energy into breastfeeding and I want to go the cloth route b/c I heard it doesnt create many diaper rashes or yeast infection (both of which my son got alot).
but really...is it alot of work?
Re: Honestly, How exhausting is cloth diapers?
Honestly, I don't find it to be a lot of work. We do 2-3 extra loads of laundry a week, but other than that, it's very easy. I like doing diaper laundry better than the regular stuff, too.
You can still get diaper & yeast rashes with cloth, but if you change often enough, it is less likely. Good luck - I'm sure your DS is none worse for the wear, in spite of any 'mistakes' that you made.
I don't think so. I do a wash every 3 days. I don't notice any major difference.
There's alot of options out there. I use pockets becuase I like being able to customize the needed absorbancy to my child, but once stuffed they are very easy to get our child care provider to use.
Cloth diapering does NOT prevent yeast infections.
That said, CDs are a breeze. I sposied my first 2, and am CD'ing #3.
cloth diapering isn't exhausting at all...
It is a little more work for me right now because I don't have very many diapers. I am working on making more so I can go another day between washings. I am washing every other day and sometimes I have to wash every day if he poops more than usual
But with a bigger stash it will be sooo much more easy.
It's pretty exhausting for my washing machine and dryer.?
It can be mentally exhausting if you are battling repelling or stink issues... or if you're having trouble figuring out which diaper is best for your little one.?
Once you've figured out what works for you and gotten into a routine, it's not exhausting at all. ?
Yes, there are some small hurdles to jump to figure out what works for you and how to do it. But that said, I have been doing cloth for 3 months and love it overall. I do an extra 2 loads of laundry per week, but don't even notice it. I am looking forward to using cloth with the next 1-2 babies from the very beginnning.
I haven't found it to be at all. We switched when ds was 7 months. We've had less leaks (practically none), no blowouts, and exactly one rash since switching to cloth which has been a blessing for me and the only extra work it has really causes me that I notice at all is the 2-3 extra loads of laundry a week. And the laundry isn't a big deal to me because I throw it in and walk away and since they're diapers there's not a lot of folding involved (which is what I really hate about laundry).
The poop thing hasn't been a big deal for us. When they're just being breasfed the poop is water soluable and can go stgraight in the washer so no extra work at all (and remember - no blowouts!). And now that he's on solid we give the diaper a couple extra swipes with a plastic knife and the rest goes in the pail and comes out of the washer perfectly clean. For us it hasn't been a lot of extra work at all!
Not at all. We're on month 11 and still going strong. Its just laundry. And as far as stink/repelling issues go, sometimes that happens and you just have to spend a little time figuring it out, but its not that big of a deal. And, you just have to decide what your priorities are. If you are committed to doing something better for the environment, which I'm convinced CDing is, then you'll hardly think twice about the very small amount of time spent on figuring out which detergent to use.
I mean, you do that type of thing once or twice. With sposies, you have to go to the store and buy them on a regular basis.
I don't really think of it as much work - for us, it's a load of laundry every other day. Not so bad.
I told a friend - if you want to be doing it, it won't seem like a lot of work at all. But if you don't really want to be doing it, then yes, it may seem like a hassle.
