Trying to Get Pregnant

allergy girls

I know there have been a few posts over the past couple weeks regarding safe meds for allergies while ttc/pg. I just got off the phone with my allergy/asthma specialist and thought I'd share what I found out.

I was previously switched from allegra (not safe) to zyrtec (otc & safe). I was continued on singulair, which is also safe. I typically would take nasonex nasal spray & elastat (prescription allergy eye drops) during the spring when my symptoms were really bad. Both of these are Not safe (category c). So I called to ask for alternative -- apparently there are no safe prescription options in the eye drop category - dr recommended I buy otc saline drops. Rhinocart is safe as a nasal spray (category b) and they're giving me that in place of Nasonex.

Hope someone finds this helpful.

Re: allergy girls

  • Thanks!  So glad to hear Zurtec is safe...it's the only thing that works for me.  I have been on it for years, even before it was OTC.

  • Thanks for passing along the info.  I'm suffering in a bad way again, I'm just ready for allergy season to be over.

  • Ditto! I have been battling a cold and allergies for three weeks now (gotta love living in the allergy capital of the world). I'm on prescription Rhinocourt nose spray, and at my appt. this morning the doc also recommended Zyrtec.

I'm also getting a neti pot this evening to try and alleviate some of this crud naturally...I've heard they can be "uncomfortable" at first, so I'm not really looking forward to it!

    Dear Bump: You suck.
  • Oh that's helpful!  I hadn't contacted my dr because over the weekend I had a bit of allergy attack but didn't want to take anything.  I'm glad to know zyrtec is safe as I've used this before we decided to TTC.  Thanks!
