i think is about to ruin my anniversary/babymoon trip to NYC...
now, generally, i wouldn't buy into the flu fear frenzy... but then my mom brought up a good point which is: i can't catch it. so, should i be on an airplane (with all the close quarters and recycled air + my shot immune system) flying in and out of NYC right now, with all the swine flu?
and now i'm like. DANG SWINE FLU.
so, DH and i have these vouchers to fly anywhere US Airways flys for free... so basically within the continental US (if Hawaii counted, i wouldn't even need advice... but it doesn't)
so ladies, any good rec's for the new destination of our 1st Anniversary/Babymoon trip?
Re: DANG Swine Flu!!! -vacay help...
hellooo rssnlvr- you bring quite the list!!!
well done.
Charleston and Boston I find quite exciting (the other places I have been and enjoyed, actually lived in Seattle for 7 years)
do you have experience w/ either of those places?
ohhh sare, tell me all about it! i dont know jack about this area...
why? tell me about your love for Charleston...
at this point i would TOTALLY save them for after... but the darn things expire Aug 3rd... gahhhh.
Virginia Beach is a great beach to visit. Very clean, lots of stuff to do. Great night life, great restaurants, etc. Williamsburg/Jamestown/Yorktown are all day trips you can take from Va. Beach and it's really cool to see the history.
The Va. Beach board walk stretches over 30 streets and there is live entertainment on the weekends on almost every block! I lived there for 3 years and never would have left if it weren't for a bad breakup (stupid men).
Boston is also super amazing!! Lots of history and fun stuff to do at night.
All I know about Charleston is that my brother (who lives in NC) raves about how awesome it is and how I HAVE to visit it. Not much help, eh?
As for Boston, it has a lot of charm and historical interest if you're into that kind of thing...and the chowder is awesome. :-)
ohhh all good things... now i'm going to start looking at it on the net...
delight!
I've always wanted to go to New Orleans too, but DH has been several times, so I'm not sure that he's up to it...
The Outer Banks in NC are great! very low key, relaxed casual beach vacay, if that's what you're looking for.
We're going to Bar Habor, Maine this August (to go camping) but it's very rustic, again laid back, beautiful scenary you can access almost everything by car since I doubt you'd be up for hiking.
I've heard great things about the Finger Lakes in NY (opposite side of the state from NYC). or there's always Niagra Falls.
I second New Orleans! Great town!!
What about Atlantic City? Don't they have casinos and a boardwalk?
mmmmm Chowder...
i have been to Boston for literally 24 hours once, but didn't see a whole lot of it, so i'm totally interested in checking it out for real.
as for Charleston, i'm going to start researching that business on the net...
You know lady, now that I'm thinking about it, Unless you're going this month, Charleston may be too hot to really enjoy. Id defintely check the weather.
you ladies are bringing amazing vacay suggestions, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
my fingers are going to start google exploring everying you have suggested...
but, you know, keep 'em coming if you are inspired...
i just wanted to take a minute to say THANK YOU!
Hello!
I live in Charleston and absolutely love it. Here are my reasons:
beach within 10 minutes of downtown, history all over the place, plenty of "touristy" things to do like a speed boat ride to view dolphins and lighthouses or a visit to the beautiful tea plantations. There is a ton of stuff within walking distance downtown too - great farmers market, cool cooking classes, the pier, tons of restaurants, etc.
if you do end up coming and you need help/advice I am happy to help you plan!!
ohhh... good to know, you raise an excellent point.
i think that, ideally, we'd be going late may...
I would vote Portland, OR. It was the most beautiful state I have EVER seen. The food is really really good too.
You can go to Voodoo Donuts and get the *** and balls donut (filled with cream). Their slogan is "The magic is in the hole."
CHARLESTON!!! okay sorry for all that excitement.. I absolutely LOVE it! We go usually once every other month or so (we're only 2 hours away) and it is by far the best beach in the Southeast. The weather should be perfect late May, and the water will still be cool enough to be refreshing. The beaches aren't overly crowded, and there's so much to do there... it never gets old to me.
ohhhh, Jenn, thank you! i am going to PM you so we don't lose each other...
do you think they would let a PG lady do this speed boat to dolphins thing? that sounds awesome... but also, bumpy.
HAHHAA. Glow- i will be in Portland in 2 weeks (my IL's just moved there recently) and i will have to get my pg asss down to Voodoo Donuts...
Hmm... you know, probably not. BUT there are some great kayaking tours that will take you dolphin spotting!
They also have the Maple Bacon Donut (maple glazed donut with strips of bacon in it). It sounds disgusting, but it is truly out of this world.
If your husband likes beer, there are a TON of microbrews around. It is a very very cool town. The coast is also beautiful, and the hiking is great (although I'm sure you probably wouldn't want to right now).
(I'm a little obsessed with Portland)
umm, duh come to NC and visit me.
although i agree with the charleston trip ideas, i still have never been, but it's on my list of places to visit!
hahahahaa. you do raise an excellent point...
Since you said Hawaii, I would say: San Diego, Miami/Florida Keyes, Palm Beach/Fort Lauderdale, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Gulf Shores, Pensacola, Sanibel Island.
I would try not to stress too much about this Swine Flu. I think it must be a slow media day. Seriously.
