Trying to Get Pregnant

For those who are pg.

Did you do anything different when you found out you were pregnant?  I used to work out twice to three times a week and not sure if I should stop going to the gym.  I am going to call the doctor this evening and see when he wants me to come in.

Re: For those who are pg.

  • I did because I was paranoid but I wouldn't recommend it. It's harder to go back. I jsut went back last week for the first time.

The main thing I've read is that it's really important not to let your body overheat during 1st tri. Other than that, go for ti.

  • If you regularly exercised before you got pregnant, then you can definitely continue after.  Most doctors encourage it.  I would just discuss my actual workout regime with my doctor and run by him all the various exercises you do and make sure he is okay with all of them, but definitely you will be able to continue.  GL!!

  • I gave up coffee/caffeine in my first tri. I wasn't a gym person but I continued to use my treadmill, small weights, etc.

I'm not going to lie though. The first few weeks I didn't do a darn thing but once my pregnancy progressed, and m/s subsided, I started back up.

  • I had been a slacker the few months before I got my BFP, so I haven't exercised because I didn't want to start anything new. I take our dog on walks and stretch, but I don't do any weight lifting.

I cut down on my caffeine to a few times a week the first few weeks, but that has increased to one cup a day.

  • Besides the common touch of paranoia, I get dizzy quite easily these days and don't want to make a spectacle of myself at the gym.  Can you imagine how embarrassing it would be if I went asss over elbows on the eliptical?  They would probably have to call an ambulance...  ugh, no thanks!  I'm going to start with walking around my neighborhood in the evenings, with DH, this week.  Once the 1st tri dizziness/queasiness is over I'll go back to the gym and do light workouts.
  • I continued everything as I did before I was PG. That's what most doctors will tell you do unless you have a history of prior problems.

The important things to remember: don't work too hard - know when your body tells you its too much and don't add weights/activities to your normal routine - just keep it at about the same intensity/pace as you did before.

Caffeine is ok in moderation (not like a pot of coffee a day or anything), like everything else (lunch meat, cheese, sex).

  • When I was pregnant I did most everything the same.  I exercised 4-5 weekly, and was training for a road race and my doc said keep doing the same thing.  She did say to make sure I was over doing it and that I was able to keep my body temo under control and wasn't feeling faint when exercising.  She also said I could drink coffee or pop in moderation 1-2 cups daily.   Good luck!

  • Thanks girls.  I have cut out caffeine for the last two months.  I think I am going to lay low with the exercising til I see the doctor...makes me feel better.

  • I think excercise is fine as long as you don't over exert yourself.  Take it a little bit easy.

I stopped drinking and have cut back to only a half a cup of coffee.
