I Need Questions for the Doc Re:TTC

So, Dh and I have been married for 5 years, together for about 13. I *think* we used a condom 3 times and I was on BC when I was a teenager and in my early 20's. For the most part, there's been no BC for the last 6 years or so. We were one of those "when it happens, it happens" couples. I have had 1 confirmed m/c (about 5.5 yrs ago), one self confirmed m/c (about 3.5 yrs ago) and one suspected m/c (about 1.5 years ago). My cycles have always been jacked up and my periods tend to be pretty awful.

We decided in Dec. to actively make an effort when we got home from our big vacation (which was about 3 wks ago). I started attempting to chart in Jan., read everything I could get my hands on, talked to our family doctor, etc.

My "official TTC" ob/gyn appt. is in a couple weeks. We're gonna do my annual + some blood work, talk about getting DH tested, family history, etc.  Since we haven't used BC in so long, we've been told we'll get to skip the whole "try for a year, then come see me" spiel.

So, anyone have suggestions or recommendations of what to ask, specific things to be aware of, ideas/concerns to discuss, etc???

Thanks in advance!

  • It sounds like you have different issues than I do, so I'm not sure how precise my advice is going to be, but this is what I've gleaned from a lot of reading. If you've been having fairly regular cycles and suspect that you've miscarried three times, especially if they were early, it sounds like there might be some sort of issue with your LP and/or progesterone levels - or at least that's one possibility. Taking a progesterone supplement after ovulation is an easy fix to some problems, from what I hear. I would definitely emphasize that you think you've conceived three times, so the tests that your doctor runs will be the most helpful ones.

Your first paragraph- tell them exactly that.

This. Also bring your charts with you, if you can. Some doctors are very anti-charting but some aren't. Hopefully yours will take them seriously, like mine does.

  • Thanks ladies. We've discussed short LP and an-ovulatory cycles w/ our PCP, but not yet w/ the new ob/gyn. So, we'll see what he has to say.

We have charts, that I do on paper 'cause it works better for us & the ob/gyn has actually requested them (in all their pathetic glory), so that's a positive sign.
