Baby Names

Would this be lame?

So we are trying to figure out names.  If it is a boy, I would like to name him after DH.  But obviously the baby would need to go by a different name.  My hubby's middle name is Baker.  Would that be weird?  I know family names are really popular now, but I never heard of anyone going by Baker.  What do you think?  Tell me the truth I can take it.

  • I think Baker would be a great middle name, but not a good choice for a first name.  I think it could lead to teasing ("butcher, baker, candlestick maker") and kind of sounds like a dog's name.

  • I actually know a guy with the first name Baker and he was never made fun of that I know of. I think you just have to judge how acceptable more unique family names are in your area. I'm from Alabama where its not uncommon at all to use a maiden name or a last name of a relative as a first name, so people don't think much about it.

If you like it, go for it!

  • I would not use that one. Some surnames are first names now, but....that one is not a good idea.

  • Hmmm... I don't really think it "works" as a first name but I agree that if you like it, use it. I've seen/heard way worse.

We gave DS DH's first name (but a different middle name) so I understand wanting to honor your DH.

Hmmm I didn't think of that.  So your DS goes by his middle name I assume?

  • I actually like it. I have never met anyone named Baker but I think it could be a perfectly fine first name. No worse than Parker. And as far as teasing, you can do that with any name.

  • I'm pretty picky with names that I like, but I don't think Baker is bad. I'd consider it if I were you.
  • So it sounds like everyone is 50/50 on this one.  I go back and forth myself.  Sometimes I love it and think its cool, other times I think, Baker is baker!  Ahh I am so torn.  Oh well we don't even know if its a boy yet.  Of course I have been thinking about this before I was even pregnant lol.

  • One thing I have considered is using DH's first name as a baby's middle name. That way they each have their own, but he gets honored. Just a thought.?

  • I went to college with a guy that went by Baker/Bakey, (it was his last name) and no one thought a thing of it.. Do what you two believe is right! There are much worse names out there if you ask me.

I do think it would be lame. Baker sounds strictly a last name.?

I agree with this and I do like the name Parker. You could definitely use Baker if ya'll like it.

  • My dad and brother have the same first name but different middle names so they we're Sr and Jr and we used to use my brother's first and middle together (David Chris or Dave Chris) and never had any confusion.
