I have no clue why. The girl has nothing to put in a bra! Her mom says she "needs" it but we have to be careful because she's embarassed about it. I'm not hearing that she grew boobs since we saw her last weekend. Poor DH- he isn't ready for this. I'm not either. She's not even 10 yet!
There are some 9/10 year old girls at my school who do need bras, but SD really does not.
Re: SD's mom called- she's putting SD in a bra
That is just silly.
My DS had a sex ed class this year (10yrs old). They told him he needed to wear deodrant everyday.
I think everyone is trying to make kids these days grow up too fast.
Awww. Well maybe she confessed to her mom that she is embarassed about some of the other girls at school having them and not her. I remember that feeling.
That said, I did not get a bra until I was 12 and didn't really even need it then!
As much as she might not need one now, it will help to get her used to wearing one now so that when she does need one, there won't be as much of an adjustment to it (we all know just how uncomfortable those things are).
I was a really late bloomer (I was a gymnast), so to have to adjust to a bra at age 14 sucked. At the same time, maybe it's best to get her into an undershirt, or sports bra like item, rather than an actual starter bra for now, since all it's going to do is ride up (there's nothing to hold it down)

Some 10 year old boys need to wear deodorant. My DS is almost 14 and he's been wearing it since he was 8. But that's just when his BO capabilities kicked in.
Thanks girls- maybe she wants to fit in, maybe she needs the "training".... I don't know. It still sucks- I've known her since she was a baby. It's weird.

I know I wanted to wear one pretty young as I felt uncomfortable changing in the locker room especially when the gym teacher was around. Didn't realize till later that (much later) that my gym teacher was a lesbian and looking at everyone! She would stare at EVERYONE.
I would talk to her and see if there is something else going on - you never know now-a-days!
My very first bra wasn't because I had anything to hold up. It was because the other girls in my class did and I felt left out. I was around 10 too.
That could be. I got my first when I was 11 and starting 6th grade. Didn't need one, but we started changing clothes for gym at that time and most of the other girls had one.
Did we have the same gym teacher? Ours even let certain girls change in her office which was in the locker room. SO wrong!
Please don't take this the wrong way, I am not saying this about your son in any way.
My mom works with 5th and 6th graders and I've subbed for her class in past years. When you get 30 kids in a room together after PE they stink! Some of them are very ready to wear deodorant and so it is easier to make a blanket statement to all of them then embarrass anyone by picking them out.

Thanks for all of the comments, ladies! I was gone for a few hours and having time pass plus reading your responses has calmed me down a bit. I really didn't think about most of the things you all have said. I just thought, "She's rushing her to grow up!!" But... you've made some good points.
