Where are the old fashioned girls? Charles?

This name has come up a few times but we never considered it seriously. It's my grandfather's name, who passed last November. I loved him dearly and would love to honor him by using the name for our son.... I just don't know if it's too old fashioned? It's a nice name (and I actually think it pairs nicely with William, even though we don't currently call DS William often) but I'm having a hard time picturing a baby named Charles. I guess we could call him Charlie while he's little?

It's nms. I think Charlie is becoming too unisex with the whole Charlotte/Charlie thing (which I am also not a fan of).

I like Charles and does go well with William, but it reminds me too much of British royal family. If you don't mind that connection, go for it. Otherwise, maybe you should consider it as a mn instead. But Charles is a handsome name.

I love the name! I don't think you would need a nickname at all if you went with Charles because it has such a charming ring to it that you rarely find these days.

I like the name Charles. I really like the name Charlie, but I dont believe in naming kids "nicknames" as their full name. Charlie and William are great together. Very cute!

I love the name Charles. I had a friend in kindergarten named Charles so it seems like a child's name to me. No need to use Charlie unless you like it.

Charles was on our list, but I know he would be called Charlie occasionally and our last name sounds just like Sheen! LOL?

I think it's a classic and it really does sound great with William. ?

I like it! ?I?think of the book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and I mean that in a positive way-because I think it works well for a little boy. I babysat a boy named Charlie that was adorable, so it has a positive connotation for me.He can go by Charles when he is older.

Charles is a classic that will never go out of style and can't possibly be ruined by trendy-name-brigade.

I despise trendy names. Loathe. So I vote a big thumbs up for Charles William! Also for the nn Charlie

Oh my gosh, I love, love, LOVE the name Charles. And I adore Charlie for a nickname when a little boy is young.

I've heard this name for babies/little boys a few times recently (not enough that I think it's super popular), so I don't think anyone would think it was an "old man" name.

Definitely not too old fashioned!

i love the name- it was also my grandfather's name and i would want to use it except I am carly, and carly & charlie sounds silly.

i don't think it is too old fashioned at all- although i do agree with pp that having a charles and a william automatically makes me think of the British royal family

I like it too. Friends named their recent son Charles and he goes by Charlie. I've NEVER thought of it as a girls name!

Love the name. It's classic and will never go out of style. William is great too, but I immediately thought of the Brittish Royals as well! Also, I really like the nn Charlie :-D

Charles is a great name and I love the idea of honoring a family member (we're using grandma's name as a mn). And Charlie is a very cute nn!

I love the name Charlie. I think it is adorable. I would definitely call him Charlie when he is little or even in university and then when he gets his career, he could call himself Charles. Go for it!

I love Charles! I like the fact that it has good little boy nick names and still a strong adult style. It's a name that can grow with him. My friend just named her son Charles, he goes by Charlie, and my step-father is Charles. Same name, but it works for both.

I like it. Charlie or Chas is cute for a nn. I don't like Chip or Chuck.

As far as the British royal family, I know a family that named all their kids after Russian Royalty for some reason. it was actually cute.
