I'm not sure about Nevaeh. It's not viewed kindly on these boards, but then I think we're a little different than the rest of society.
I'm due May 6, so the list will be release either just before or just after I deliver. Doesn't matter though. I don't see our chosen name jumping in popularity too much LOL. I am curious to see where our other options end up.
I'm not sure if many people know this, but spelling a religious word backwords is taboo. It's like, bad luck or something. But I totally agree with a PP - I'm not sure why people tolerate it on the boards so much. I got more slack for my first choice name then these people have with their sac-religious names.

Not all religious traditions have the same taboos. In fact, I have never heard of a taboo against spelling a word backwards. I know some jews won't spell out the words for god, and spell them g-d, but I have never heard the backwards thing.
That is not to say Nevaeh isn't a silly name. I think Anavrin is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better

I'm not sure how that works but I come from a Roman-Catholic family and whenever my brother would spell "hell" backwards as a kid my grandmother used to tell him that is was sac-religious and that it was not a good thing to do. I'm not a good person for religion stuff (lol) so I'm not sure exactly how it is but I did hear the Jewish thing about not spelling God out loud.
Anavrin is crazy. Did anyone ever actually bring that name up on here?!

I have no idea what you're talking about. I'm a devout Christian and have never heard of that. I also don't believe in bad luck. There is no such thing as luck. Gods going to spite you because you were spelling heaven backwards? Umm ok

Okay this is off topic but why do you keep spelling sacrilegious with a hypen?

It's kind of disturbing how excited I get each year for the ssa release! As for Nevaeh, I hope it went down for the sake of the future generation. For those of you who are also on the loathe-it bandwagon, can you imagine your son bringing home a girl named Nevaeh? Uhgh!

It is considered in bad form (and perhaps even sacrilegious) in many religious circles to spell a spiritual word backwards. It's the same idea as hanging a cross upside down-- you are invoking the opposite of the word/ intention. So for many Roman Catholics and people of other faith bases such as the previous poster, when we see a girl named Nevaeh, it's as if the parents have effectively named their daughter "Hell".
Obviously, I recognize that not everyone has the same faith base or value system as my own family, and that clearly (well, hopefully) was NOT the intention of the parents. That said, it's still a stripper name.

Because old school Catholics are a bit nutty like that. I'm Catholic and taught in a rather traditional parish and I couldn't believe the things people would tell me were 'sacreligious'... I always wanted to say that I lived my faith, not a set of crazy superstitions!
I've never heard of backwards spellings being considered taboo either, but I'm not at all surprised that some have.

i'm not a big believer in superstitions either, i just think spelling a word backward to make a name is kind of stupid. i don't think it could be classified as sacrilegious, though.
