I am not seeing my OB until I'm 9 weeks and we would like to tell our parents earlier. I feel like I should get confirmation from a Dr. before making the big announcementand not just rely on a pee stick . I have zero pregnancy symptoms which isn't helping either.
I wonder if I could call my general practitioner and see if they'll let me come in for a blood test....
Re: anyone tell family before 1st dr. appointment?
My doctor didn't even do any sort of confirmation at my 1st appointment. I guess he figured 8 (yes, 8...) positive HPTs was confirmation enough.
?
But, to answer your question, yes. We told at around 5 weeks.?
Definitely call your GP for a blood test! They probably do it all the time.
We didn't even wait for that, though. We told our families (parents & siblings) within hours of getting the BFP. I got a blood test the next day, but by then the secret was out!
I told my parents right away and DH's parents as soon as I got my first beta - both times. As long as you have a good relationship with your parents it helps to have that support in case something does go wrong. I do regret my decision to tell the extended family so early the last time because it's really hard to "untell" people you don't talk to on a regular basis.
btw, congrats on your BFP!
We told before our first appointment, actually the day we got our BFP so before ANY symptoms!
Our first appointment there was really nothing saying we were pregnant, she did feel my uterus and said it felt 8 weeks, but when sent us for a U/S for dating purposes and we weren't that far, so who knows.
I am getting an ultrasound so that will be the 'confirmation'
We told our parents before our first appointment. At my first appointment my midwife didn't do anything to confirm my pregnancy. I think HPTs are so accurate now that they don't really bother with additional testing unless there's something odd going on to make them question it.
My FIL did ask when the pregnancy would be a "medical fact" when we told him. Very cute.?

I didn't even tell my DH until I had it confirmed the next day.
Do what feels right for you!
we actually told my dad the day we found out, and told eveyone else within a week of that. My mom was last to know because she's a gossiper. She was already telling the whole family that we were trying because she eavesdropped on a phone convo between my husband and sister....
We told early but we wanted our family to be a part of it from the very beginning.
Peeing on a stick is a pretty sure indicator that you're pregnant. But if you are really worried, go get a blood test done. However, just for your sake of mind ... your hCG level (the pregnancy hormone) is below 5 when you're not pregnant, and no HPT is sensitive enough to read it that low.
And yes, DH and I told our families before our first "real" OB appt (next Friday). We had a miscarriage/ectopic scare though, so we needed the moral support. I don't know how close you are to your family, but having my mom there to answer my questions before I go to the dr is amazing
We haven't told our families yet. ?I go to my first appointment this Thursday and are hoping everything is going okay. ?If we can I like to wait until Mother's Day to let the cat out of the bad, at least with our close family.
?I did however tell my best friend that I was pregnant 2 days after I took my HPT. ?I just needed to tell someone and if I would of told my sister, my entire family would of known within minutes.?
Most docs don't do blood tests to confirm anymore, except in special circumstances, so it's normal to not have your first appointment until 8;10 weeks. ?The HPTs are very accurate, so if it was positive, you're pregnant (this is why they don't do very many blood test confirmations anymore).
We decided not to tell anyone until close to the end of 1st tri because we don't want to have to "untell" people if something goes wrong. ?We figure if we want support from people after a m/c, we'd rather just tell the select few we'd want support from at that time.
That said, plenty of people tell before the 1st appt - like I said, the HPT is confirmation enough that you're pregnant. ?It's all a matter of what you're comfortable with.?
