Baby Names

Final decision...not the norm!

Paxtyn Nicole... I don't know why I feel the need to post because my dh's naming style is very different from the norm here on the name boards...but it's an addiction i suppose.  We love it, I know some of you may not, just felt the need to share.

  • It's a very pretty name!  As long as you and dh love it!

  • I really like it! I knew a Paxton, she was one of my neighbor's children, she was the only one! Everyone just said Paxton, and you knew who they were talking about, kind of like Madonna or Cher haha! Very unique, very cute!
  • Glad you guys found a name you love!

  • Nice name, stupid spelling.

    Nice name, stupid spelling.
Im not into misspelled names either, though I don't mind changing vowels to Ys.  We really did toy with keeping the spelling Paxton...but I think because it's such a strong unisex name we liked making it girlie with Paxtyn.

  • Strange. I prefer Paxton if you're going to do anything with that at all. Oh well.

  • Congrats deciding!
  • I don't love Paxtyn, but it's not bad, either. I don't know if your name is Thaira in real life (since I assume if it is you've had to spell it out often), but my mom also threw in a Y for a vowel and it's a pain in the ass to always have to spell your name for every single thing where your name is necessary (um, everything!). I like my name for the most, but sometimes I wish I could just say my name and not have to go, "Okay, let me spell it for you..."

Also, Evansville is a place I frequent quite often. :)

  • I'm glad you decided on a name you love. Congratulations.
  • My husband just suggested this name to me last night. I've never heard of it for a girl until now. I don't know how I truely feel about the name, but I do know for sure that I don't hate it. Congrats on the name decision!

  • I agree with the other poster, nice name -- stupid spelling.

Remember, this child has to grow up with this name.  By making it so that she will have to correct the spelling for the rest of her life, she will grow to dislike her name.  Also, try having that on a resume.  Put it together with your last name and truly ask yourself if it looks professional on paper...believe me, that matters.

  • I don't agree that it's a stupid spelling.  My parents added the "e" to the end of my name thinking it made it feminine and people would never mistake me for a boy.  It didn't work, but they tried.  Spelling it Paxtyn will help people meeting her for the time know what her gender is.  It sounds weird, but that's a good thing!  I've showed up to many-a-job interview and the person is thrown off by the fact that I'm female.
  • I have to disagree with the pp. I now see Aydyn, Bradyn, Landyn, and all sorts of superfluous "y"s placed in names. I don't think it denotes femininity as much as perhaps it did 20 years ago. Hell, my sister dated a Brandyn a few months ago and we were all like...a y? Really?

  • I think the spelling is dumb too.  Remember- YOU don't have to live w/ this name, your DD does.  YOUR desire to be "unique/ different" or what have you is putting thisname on your child, not you.

  • Generally speaking I don't like "new" spellings or what I think are unecessary "y"s but I think in this case it is acceptable.  I actually really like the name (though we are most likely going with a traditionally male name for our little girl too so I may be biased) but I think of Paxton as a boy, the y does girl it up for me.  Every one and their brother has a unique name these days-- it is not like when we were growing up, you're little girl will get over having to explain there is a y when it is necessary and other times she will let it go.

I think the name is really cool.

  • It's cute. This board is very anti-alternative spellings. I don't think it's so bad. I always have to spell my name and it's A-M-Y. People are just clueless anyway when it comes to spelling.

  • I think it's beautiful. :-) As long as you guys love it - that's what matters!
  • Personally, I think there is a difference between an alternative spelling and something appearing to be mispelled. A lot of the times, different spellings have to do with the culture or origin of the name, and that's fine.

For example, Juilet/Juliette and Stephanie/Stefanie ?are what I would call alternate spellings.?

Paxtyn looks mispelled. If you believe the name is unisex and therefore acceptable for your baby girl, then I don't understand why it needs the extra y in the first place.?

?I also just don' t think it ages well.
