As in, what age is normal for them to go down to two naps? What are some of the signs that they are ready? Claire is 6 months, and we've been averaging 3 naps a day until now, with a 2 hour awake period inbetween. In the last week or so, I've noticed that she is usually able to go longer (I just put her down now after being up almost 3 hours and she probably could have gone longer). Also, her naps have been getting shorter. Are these signs that she could be ready to drop a nap? Thanks!
Re: When are they usually ready to drop a nap (3 to 2)
Around 8 months or so, DS started really fighting his third nap. I still put him down for it every day, but if he didn't go to sleep in 30 minutes, I let him get up. Some days he would take it, some days not. We did this for a month, and around 9 months he was consistantly not taking it and most of the time not acting like he even needed it anymore, so I quit putting him down at all.
Since we cut it out, I've been putting him down later for his second nap (pushing it back 30 minutes or so), and he's been sleeping longer.
K dropped from 3 to 2 way early on, around 3 months. She dropped from 2 to 1 last month, so yay for that. She's always been a very consistent, great sleeper, but she's also always slept only the minimum amount of hours per day for a baby her age.
One nap is actually pretty awesome- she sleeps 2.5-3 hours in one chunk, so that's good, but it's rough entertaining her for the 7-8 hours she's awake in between sleeping.
I feel that we're on our way to something similar. It all kind of depends on how the other 2 naps go and what we've been doing that day but the 3rd nap is getting less frequent. (Of course, I say this as DD has been down for a 3rd nap for almost an hour.)
