I am a teacher but work at a swim club in the summer. Our rule is that babies have to be 6 months. I think this has to do with the chlorine levels being too powerful for them. This is the rule in the few pools that I have worked at in the summers. That being said I so wanted to take my DD to the pool this summer but she will be way too young.
I can't remember exactly but I took DD #1 when she was about 3 mos. I tested Aveeno suntan lotion and used it. Kept her in the shade. Nursed her in the changing room. She took a nap in her stroller. She did great and was never burnt or got any kind of skin irritation from the chlorine. In fact she loved it. I have an older son so I couldn't just stay home all summer.
Really?? 6 months? Im a pool operator, and I have never heard of any reason why babies cant get in at any age. As long as you wash them off well afterwards, their skin shoudl be fine from chlorine/bromine.
Im taking my son to the pool tomorrow-although its a private pool that uses oxidation rather than chlorine. Its at a drs house_ i would assume we would inform me if it was dangerous for LO.
I was wondering this since there is a baby swin school that opened near me that takes them as young as 2 months. Everything I read online is to wait until 6 months due to the chlorine (and also to wait until 6 mo for sunscreen too).

Hope that helps!

I'd be worried about the chlorine as well. I mean, I use free & clear detergent, so I wouldn't go dipping my kid into a vat of chlorine.
Just my opinion...
It has very little to do with the chemicals.
It has to do with the child ability to regulate their own body temperature. 6 months is when this is solid. Before that it is very easy to upset that.
