2nd Trimester

what kind of bottles/nipples are you getting?

Baby Bargains was no help, and I'm overwhelmed by the choices and info I'm finding online. I appreciate some advice. Let me know why you made the choice you made.

  • Playtex drop-ins because you can use for breast milk or formula. I'm planning on breast feeding, but who knows what could happen?  I also registered for a set of glass bottles because I have heard great things about them.

  • Dr. Brown's. It was one of the ones recommended by Baby Bargains. I figured I'd just stick to the brands they mentioned (there weren't many, I think only Avent & Born Free were the other 2).

  • I registered for all Advent.   My friend who just had a baby uses them and likes them.  I have read they leak, but it seems to be user error.  Baby Bargains 2009 recommended them also as their top pick.

Ventaire.  I've had good luck with them.  A lot gals swore by the playtex drop-ins but I thought the bag was a pain.  Avent you just have to be careful -- if you overtighten, it leaks.  And Dr. Brown's had too many small parts to clean for me.  My sister recommended the Ventaire and worked great for DD.

  • Playtex BPA free, vent-aire with breast flow nipples.
  • I got avent for DD... which she hated. Then I got wide-mouth Dr Browns... hated. Regular Dr B's were ok with  her so we stayed with them.

My advice: do NOT stock up. Get single bottles, not multipacks so you won't have so many useless bottles around (or if you get them don't open rhem untl  you know dc will take them)

With DC#2 I'm going to try the cheapo gerbers and evenflos... because when we supplemented with formula in the beginning, we used the ready-to-serve formula and those bottles are very basic and DD took them pretty well. Of course, maybe it was the rubber nipple she liked, some babies prefer them over silicone ones.

  • Born Free and maybe some drop-ins which are now BPA-free.
