Love the one new thing a month - I try to do that, too. Disclaimer - I don't know about these mixtures being safe with granite countertops, which I've heard are finicky.
A general surface cleaner: approximately 1/2 water 1/2 vinegar (I usually do a bit more vinegar than water, but not much). I add a few drops of grapefruit EO, but you don't have to.
For the bathroom surfaces, I sprinkle baking soda down, spray it with my vinegar solution, let it fizz a bit, and then scrub. I have never seen my tub so clean as I did the first time I did this.
I use a store bought EF cleaner for the toilet bowl, so I can't help you there. You could probably do the same as above - I just couldn't figure out a good way to get the baking soda in there without contaminating whatever I was using to get it in there - I'm a tad germophobic in that area.

I am no help with the cleaners b/c I haven't gotten that EF yet, but I would love to see a post from you about what each of your monthly goals are. That sounds like a really cool idea!
