I am nervous about taking DS to his first baseball game tomorrow. IL's seats are in prime foul ball territory. I've dodged them before.
DH and my IL's think I'm being uptight, but I'm really really nervous. I am going to try to keep my eyes on every pitch.
Hopefully the Cards will blow the Cubbies away to make all the anxiety worthwhile.
Anyone else been nervous about this? Thank goodness we're not under the Casino Queen Party Porch, some fat drunk man fell over the railing onto some poor women in the lower section a few days ago! Gee -- unlimited drinks at a baseball game...great idea.
Re: My irrational fear of the day: foul balls.
We go to baseball games a lot, and I have this fear too. We've tried to sit where foul balls don't tend to go, but of course one time we did this and a ball came very close to hitting us. I don't think it's an irrational fear....depending on where you sit, I think you do have to be careful and be ready to jump on your kid.
And sorry, but I have to say....Go Cubbies!!! :-p
Kelly&Marty,
No hard feelings here! It's all good fun. Hey, totally off subject, but I remember you as having the same DeQuervain's problem I had. What was the outcome with yours? I had shots in both wrists in May, then had to do a repeat in one side 3 months ago, and now I think the other one needs it again. I'm so afraid it's going to keep happening, and lifting this reluctant toddler into his rear-facing seat is really aggravating it!
How are your wrists?
We haven't taken DS to a ball game yet......but I have already thought about this......I don't think its irrational. Foul balls (or any balls for that matter.....), can really injure a young child when being thrown/hit at a fast speed........
I have already joked with DH that when we take DS to his first game, he will wear a helmet....ha ha!
Go Cards!
I understand how you feel because I was actually watching my cousin play his high school baseball game a couple weeks ago and a foul ball slammed into DS's stroller. Luckily, I had the canopy over him because it was sunny. It slammed into the top of the stroller. I was crying, he was crying, it was terrible!!
I had shots in both in October, and felt great, thought it was gone. 3 months later (as many people told me), it was back in my left wrist. The doctor told me in October that if it comes back again he'd recommend surgery since that was my 2nd round of shots. So yeah, it started feeling bad again at the end of January, so I started wearing my splint at night again. I've been putting off visiting the doctor because I don't want the surgery right now. We're about to move in June and my schedule is crazy right now and it would be impossible for me to not have the use of my hand even for just a few weeks. Funny thing is, as I've put it off, the wrist seems to have gotten somewhat better. I'm still wearing the splint at night, but not during the day. It still hurts if I move it wrong sometimes, but not as bad and it's not as tender. So I'm hoping maybe it'll just go away. If not, I'll look for a new wrist doctor after we move and go from there. I think maybe having DS out of daycare after we move (when I'll be a SAHM again) may aggravate it more since I'm sure to be lifting him more. So yeah, totally hating it, and not wanting surgery. One of my friends is trying to convince me to try accupuncture and/or chiropractic to see if that helps, but I googled it and found nothing to suggest that those are helpful therapies. Good luck with yours...hope we're both on the mend eventually!
I'm from the same area and remember that - it was so sad!
As for the game, I'd be nervous about it too, but I'm sure everything will be fine, just keep your eyes peeled and reflexes ready.
