Flea and tick collars

It's tick season again and I am looking for a baby friendly tick collar.  The dog came in with a tick yesterday :(  We have always bought the cheap one made by Hartz that you pull every once and a while.  I'm concerned that DD will pull at it and then stick her fingers in her mouth (which I assume is not good for her).  Is there something more baby friendly?  We have tried the kind that you put the liquid down the back (frontline???) but it didn't work for our dog.

Re: Flea and tick collars

  • Oh!  Don't use those collars!  Not only are they bad for babies but they can be REALLY bad for dogs and cats as well.  There have been cases where the dogs/cats have had fur (and even skin!) eaten off by them and they can cause seizures.  Really scary stuff.

These are much safer flea/tick collars.   I haven't used them personally but have friends who swear by them.  We use a combination of Neem Oil and Diatomaceous Earth to repell and kill fleas and ticks.

Thanks.  I couldn't find if they were safe around babys.  DD loves the dog and I can see her pulling on the collar and I don't her to put anything bad in her mouth.
