If your baby was breech ...

Did you know without your doctor telling you?  My OB doesn't feel for position until a few more weeks, but from the weird jabs at what feels like my cervix and on the sides of my belly I don't think she's head down yet.

Also, how long until they are stuck in position?

TIA

  • Both my boys were head down by 30 weeks ( my OB told be the boys are lazy and tend to get intoposition earlier than girls). She still has time to drop down :o)

  • DD was breech until 37 or 38 weeks- how sad is it that I don't remember!? I have it written down but she did eventually turn. They can turn at any point- I dont think they are ever stuck. I had an external version scheduled that I never had to go to.

My baby turned at 36 weeks, I think.  I could tell she was breech by feeling her kick and the midwife  confirmed it.

I think they can turn up until the end.  My friend's baby flipped at 39 weeks.

  • Michelle was in transverse breech starting around 25 weeks and stayed that way until she was born at 33 weeks

  • I had a growth U/S at 28 weeks because I was measuring small.  I found out then she was breech and that was the very reason I was measuring small.  They were pretty sure she would turn, but she never did and I had my C-section at a little over 38 weeks.  She was frank breech meaning her feet were squashed against her face, her head was in my right rib and her bottom was down.  I never was able to feel kicks very well, just squirms.
  • Yes.  She was footling breech.  Her head was right under my ribs on the right side and her feet were kicking my pelvis constantly.

  • Yes, I could feel a very hard part in my ribs, but it never occurred to me that it was DD's head.  My doctor figured it out at 37 weeks.  At 39 weeks, she turned head-down.  So anything can happen.
  • DD was breech the entire time, never did move, even with an external version.  DS was transverse, didn't go head down til 34w.  You do feel more of the kicks & pokes down low.

Only about 3% of births are breech.  The docs don't worry until 36w.  And even then, most still turn before delivery.

  • DS was head down and in position, starting at 36 weeks. At 38 weeks he flipped over to the breech position so we scheduled the c/s for two days after my appt. I went into labor that night and had an emergency c/s.

DD was transverse until about 37 weeks and then she flipped to head down.

  • I was pretty sure my dd was breech and asked my dr. to check...it was probably late 2nd trimester.  She was frank breech and stayed that way the entire pregnancy and I had a c-section.
