After seeing my Doctor for an incision check and chatting about DS, I broke down and cried in the office. I have been breastfeeding for the past 2 1/2 weeks and he eats all the time, he nurses for 45 minutes, pulls off, falls asleep and then wants more. It can take me 1 hour to feed. This is causing me much anxiety about having people visit, or going out b/c I am shy about BF in public. I saw a LC and started pumping to get a break...I have done everything I can to make it work, but with a 2 1/2 yo at home and a baby I don't have all the time to nurse.
I have decide to give up BF for my sanity and pump... I am alternating ebm and formula..
Pumpers, how often do you pump? My plan is to pump every 4 hours and pump after feeding at night, I usually get about 4 oz.. a pump...
Any advice, words of wisdom, encouragement welcome!
Re: Need support, giving up BF and joining the pumping club!
sadly- i will tell you i really think you will find it much harder to pump with a toddler running around and a busy mom schedule.
in the beginning you have to pump every two to three hours for 15-20 min around the clock to get your body into milk production mode.
pumping is a lot of hard work.
babies can be sleepy- i mean who wouldn't fall asleep while in the most comforting situation. having a momma close by and warm and cuddly.
I am not trying to talk you out of EPing- I just don't want you to think that it is easier than BFing. just afraid you are going to resort to EPing- realize it is more work that BFing- and give up all together. (which isn't terrible-)
your little one is still so young. he is just learning how to eat and BF. he will get better at it and more efficient.
whatever you decide is BEST for you- totally wish you the best. it's hard. I have been pumping for the last 11 months. I couldn't even begin to imagine doing it with a 2.5 yr old to take care of as well.
Best of luck to you dig.
thanks Ladies for your words of wisdom. I pumped with my first son until I went back to work. My schedule was not conducive to pumping at work.. SO the forst time I kept it up for 3 months and had a stash for him to get BM for 4 months..
I also supplemented with formula, which I am fine with.
As long as I give baby number 2 the same as baby number one I will be satisfied and not feel guilty... who am I kidding.. i will always feel some kind of mommy guilt!
