Doula??

I'm reading some books on TTC/Pregnancy and came across a brief section on Doulas....can anyone tell me exactly what they do, would you recommend using one/have you used one, and where to find a local Doula?

Thanks

Re: Doula??

  • I had a doula.  We were referred to her by the Cambridge Birth Center.  She was basically there to provide support to DH and me during labor and to help keep me comfortable.  My labor was so fast, though, that she barely made it to the hospital in time for the pushing.  She was very nice, and I'm sure I would have found her services very valuable if I had labored in the hospital for a long time.  She was also available to provide post-partum support.

  • is post partum a few hours of care?

I am interested in having a doula for a few weeks to come to my home and help. Do you know if they have that kind of service and how much it would be?

    thank you

I did some research online and it seems to me that the Doula would only come once???  There wasn't really much stating how many visits or how many hours they would come to your house.  And as far as how much, it seems as though it is up to that Doula....so call and get a quote if you find one you think you might like.

And I should also mention that every woman that DID have a Doula come post partum seemed to be very grateful and appreciative.
