DH vent! NBR...just need to let off steam!

My husband has admitted that it's a possibilty that he could have sleep apnea.  But instead of going to the doctor to have a sleep study done, he would rather lay in bed or couch and struggle to breath the whole time!  I get SO mad at him sometimes b/c it keeps me awake at night.  He constantly snores and occasionaly stops breathing, so I am constantly waking up and checking on him.  I told him that I really don't feel like waking up next to dead husband one morning.

Why, oh why, are men SOOO stubborn?  Just go to the darn doctor so they can do something about it!  I don't understand why he would want to suffer like that!

  • you should tell him to get it checked out because i just heard of someone who just died at 33 because they never had it treated! left a wife and three children :(

  • My DH has a family history of sleep apnea. His mother, and maternal grandmother, and I think 2 of his aunts have all had surgery. He snores like a FREIGHT TRAIN. I wear ear plugs almost nightly because I'm a VERY light sleeper. I've not noticed him stop breathing though. I bet that's frightening!

DH gets stubborn when he's sick, and running a 100+ fever... and I want him to go to the doctor because he seems to be very susepticble to strep throat...which can turn dangerous if you don't do something about it! So I understand about men being stubborn @$$es!

  • I know that's scary. Maybe you can try talking to him again, tell him he needs to get healthy for the baby. I know men are stubborn, but you have to keep trying. GL

that's fun!!  I am also not too far away from Grayson, KY.  I'm over in West Virginia!  Just across the river!

  • sleep apnea is also related to narcolepsy (sp?) because the person never gets a full REM cycle at night, therefore super tired during the day, to the point where they fall asleep mid-sentence, mid-driving, etc. not good, he should definitely get it checked out - as if keeping his pregnant wife awake at night isn't enough reason!

they are similar (as in both sleeping disorders) but they are not the same thing you can have one without the other!  and usually you only have one not both!

  • My DH has sleep apnea. He's in the military and mentioned it in passing one day to a CO and they made him go to Medical like the next day. The Dr. did a 20 minute in-office sleep study and DH would stop breathing for between 5 to 17 seconds. Now he gets to go to Portland for further studies.

Tell (don't ask, lol) your DH to go to the doctor. Let him know you're stressing about it and you're having trouble sleeping which is not good for you or the baby. Be over-dramatic if you think it'll help Wink

Has he tried those nose strip things?

oh, okay! I could have sworn they were related and one sometimes caused the other, but either way both are dangerous.
