I'd call her Maggie, but in my head, I'd assume her full name was Margaret. But that really isn't a huge deal... My name is Kate and some ppl have assumed my full name is Katherine, but it's not, it's Kathleen. No biggie.
That said, I don't love Maggie as a stand alone name, sorry!
i think you mean margaret? i do think people will assume it's a nn. i don't like nn's as formal names, but if you really like it, you'll just have to not let it bother you.

i think i would automatically assume in my head the full name was Margaret if I took the time to think about it- however if someone introduced themselves as maggie i wouldn't call them margaret

Yes, people will assume her name is margaret bc maggie is the nn to margaret. While my name, Julie, is a stand alone name I constantly get asked if my name is Julia, or they just call me Julia lol. Maggie is not really a stand alone name IMO, it is a nn sorry.
I think Maggie is an adorable nn. However, she will always be assumed to "really" be a Margaret. And Margaret is such a nice formal name, I don't know why you'd resist it. Plus, Margaret Mary flows much better than Maggie Mary.
If you don't like the sound of Margaret, which I can understand, there are options. Margaretta, Margarita, Marguerite, Margotta.
Yes, they will assume that Maggie is really Margaret. Why? Because Maggie is a nickname not a full name.
Do your child a favor and name her Margaret Mary and just call her Maggie. (Margaret Mary flows way, way better than Maggie Mary anyway.) That way she doesn't have to be embarrassed when she's an adult and has to just put "Maggie" on her resume.
(Trust me on this. We just had someone interview at my company and her full name on her resume was Maggie. There were definitely some giggles and comments made about how country it was. Comments like that would not have been made if her resume had said Margaret and she had introduced herself as Maggie.)
Margaret with the nickname Maggie was one of my top choices for a girl, but DH vetoed it. I love the name and the nickname!
Re: Maggie not Maragret!
I have a cousin named Maggie and she never had any problems.

Why does it matter what they think her real name is? ?
Yes, people will probably assume her name is Margaret. But what does that really matter? They'll still call her Maggie.
My mom's name is Cathy, not short for anything, and she always has people assume that it's Catherine or Kathleen or something. Never bothered her.
