3rd Trimester

so, do you wait until contrax are painful before you call?

I was induced with Ava, so I was already at the hospital when they were bad...

I am just sitting here and thinking.."hmm, I have had quite a few, maybe I should start timing them"

But they don't hurt, just feel like the BH I have been getting for the past 10 weeks!

  • i would waait till they arent bareable any more or timeable

  • I would start timing. I've been told to call when they are lasting one minute, are five minutes apart, and have been like that for an hour (give or take). I'm not sure if pain alone is a good indicator.

  • Start timing them and see how far apart they are.  My dr. said to call if I'm having 4 an hour for 2 hours or if it's 5 or more an hour.
  • I would just call once they are regular and pretty close together.  With both my other 2 pregnancies I did not have unbearable contractions until I was at the very end.  My doctor with #2 actually told me that since they were not "furniture gripping contractions" I was not in active labor so not to come in.  I followed my gut and went in.  Less then 10 hours later I had a baby.
  • Its not about the severity...its all about the timing! My SIL's contractions were not even remotely bothering her and she waited until the first one that hurt hit her to go to the hospital and she was almost too late, another 5 minutes and she probably would have had her baby at home...unsupervised!

I believe, from my last birthing class, almost 8 yrs ago....the general rule was:  lasting one minute, five minutes apart for at least an hour.
