Baby Names

Do you like your name?

If not, why? What do you wish your name was? I'm bored so give me some entertainment :)

Re: Do you like your name?

  • My name is Leah and it's ok. I wish it was something longer that could have a nn and that people instantly knew how to pronounce.  If I had to pick a new name for myself I would be Elizabeth.

  • I do.  Katie was not common where I grew up, so I was always the only Katie.  People knew how to spell it and say it and I could always find pencils and stuff with my name, which was greatly important to me :)

I don't think I ever wished for another name.

My name is Laura and I've always loved it. Most people spell it and pronounce it right. I do get a few people that spell it Lora or Lara, but that's not common. Some people call me Lauren on accident and I don't really know why...I was the only Laura in my class until college. I could always find pencils and personalized things like key chains, which was fun as a child. I wouldn't change my name, but I would change my middle name to a family name like Catherine, Lillie or Rose.
  • My name is Sadie.  Growing up, I hated it because I couldn't find it on pencils and everywhere I went people told me, "I have a dog named Sadie."  Plus people do NOT know how to spell it, and I even had a few teachers in school pronounce it Saddy.

All that's to say, now I appreciate it for its originality.  I don't know any other Sadies my age, and I was always the only Sadie in school.  I get a lot of compliments about it now . . . and not as many dog associations.

  • My name is Caryn and I use to hate it because it was/is always spelled/pronounced wrong. ?However, now I love its unique spelling!! ?

i don't hate it, but i hate that my mom didn't realize that it was quickly becoming a girl's name when she named me that. now it is much more a name for girls than boys and i hear of girl taylors all the time.

my sister is mary clare, brothers are john and david. i definitely appreciate a less plain name than they have and i know my sister and i are in agreement that we both wish we had less common names.

that said, she almost named me veronica, which is so not me. so, i guess taylor isn't the worst.

  • I've ranted about my name here before LOL.  I actually dislike it a lot.  I would have changed it, but it's not worth the hassle and I know that it would hurt my parents if I did.

I hate that it is a "boy's" name.  I hated being called "Toni/y the Tiger" or "Toni/y Baloney" growing up.  I hate that it's only a nickname and I don't have a "real" name to fall back on.  It is misspelled ALL the time.  The other name my mom said she was considering for me was Marit.  I would have preferred that MUCH more. About the only thing I can say for my name is that at least it was relatively uncommon - I never wanted to be a Jenny or Amy or Jessie.

  • My name is Rebecca, which I've always liked.  The obnoxious thing is when people call me Becky, just assuming that's my nickname.  It's not - I go by Becca or Rebecca.
  • I think my name, Laura, seems outdated at times, like it is a name for an older lady.

Not a fan of my actual name Angela, but like Angie, which is what everyone calls me.
  • My name is just okay.  It's Lisa.  I like that people can always spell it and pronounce it correctly but I just think it's really boring.  Also there were tons of Lisa's when I was growing up so I was called Lisa J until junior high :(  I HATED that!!

I used to want my name to be Samantha - after the girl from Who's the Boss!!

  • Until I started frequenting this board I hadn't given it much thought as an adult.  After all it's been my name all my life.  I think my first name, Deirdre, is pretty but I've always gone by my nickname, Dee Dee, so Deirdre feels very formal to me.  When I think about it, Dee Dee sounds kind of juvenile or cutesy and it means younger brother but I still like it well enough.  At this point I wouldn't want to change my name but when I was a kid I wanted to be named Elizabeth or Rose.

  • I like my name alright (Ashley) but it is/was SO popular.  I was always one of several Ashley's in my class, and I went to a tiny school.  So I pretty much went by my last name my entire life, and now that I'm married with a new last name it's odd.  People still call me by my maiden name.  I always wanted a name that was different and unique.  When I was a kid I always wanted to change my name to Leila or Chloe.
  • Despite the misspellings and mispronunciations of my name, I do like it. Most people compliment my name after they get it right. The cutest was when an old man I used to work with asked me if he could tell his daughter my name b/c she was having twin girls and one was going to Tessa, and he just though Tessa and Taryn would be so cute. Lol, I told him sure!

  • I've always liked my name. My full name is Kathleen Rose although I have never really gone by Kathleen. I do kind of like that it's less common than Katherine though since Kate and Katie were very common in grade school. I did like that I had a longer full name on my engagement announcements, wedding invitations, diplomas, etc though, even though when I say "my name," I am thinking Kate. I also like my mn and may want to pass it down, as it is a family name, but I am slightly disappointed that it is SO popular now and is considered by some to be a "filler." Oh well.

  • I wish my name was my nn. Lori is fine, but I wish I had a longer, more formal name. Loren, Lorelai, Loretta, Lorraine, whatever.
  • My name is Audrey and as a kid I wasn't a fan of my name because you couldn't find it at all on pencils, pencil cases, coffee mugs or keychains. For some reason it really bothered me. Now, I love my name. I think it's so classic and I get a lot of comments on my name and how beautiful it is. I did get called Hepburn a lot growing up but I don't mind being associated with Audrey Hepburn, she's awesome.
  • My name is Holly and I've always liked it.

  • My name is Jessica & I have always hated it!  Too common & boring :(  I prefer to be called Jess & I feel like I'm in trouble when people call me Jessica!
  • My name is Catherine and I love the name. I've only had one other Katherine in a class of mine and in high school, there were only two other Catherine's. I used to want to be named Jennifer but I have grown to dislike the name. I love my name.

Laura is my name and I've never thought it's outdated. It's a classic. I like it soo much more than Lauren.?

  • I love my name.  A lot of times growing up people would think I was a boy, but it was always kind of funny to meet someone for the first time and see the look on their face when they meet me and realize I'm a girl.  I visit a friend in a gated community a lot and to this day I throw the security guard off because he's expecting a male guest.

    Btw, my name's Jaye.

  • I like my name, it's Penny.  Not short for Penelope.  I have never really given any thought to what I would want my name to be if it wasn't Penny....hmm.  I don't think I would change it.

  • I like my name (Caroline), even though it's becoming more popular. I was always the only one is school until 11th grade when a Karoline moved to our school, I've never had it shortened or even had anyone try (even though my screenname is Caro and I'll sometimes sign my name Caro-, that's just me being lazy)

My middle name is "filler" now, too.  It's Grace (after my great-grandmother) and I always liked that it wasn't one of the Anns, Lynns, or Maries that everyone else had as a mn.  Now it is and I feel like I can't pass it on because everyone else picked it up.

jebuell - My mom's (female) cousin is named Jaye.  She's the only one I've ever known.

  • My name is Holly Brooke.  I think its beautiful.  I haven't always liked it, though.
  • i like my name it is victoria lucia. i never had a nickname , my mom always made it known that my name was VICTORIA not viki or tori.

  • My name is Morgan and I love it. I wasn't very fond of it in school since it wasn't very 'girly' and was associated more with a boys name. When I was little I wanted to be Stephanie but I guess that's just because I loved Full House.
  • My name is Jill. I remember gorwing up I hated it because I thought it was just a kids name. Then a new neighbor moved in, the mom was very put together and beautiful and her name was Jill. That changed my mind :).
  • I like my name a lot despite the popularity (not quite as popular anymore though since it's moved down on the SS charts).  I only knew maybe 3 or 4 other Ashleys growing up in school, even though, at one point, my class had like 700 students.  Most people spell it correctly the first time which is a bonus.  I guess I just don't see the big deal in using common names.  The way I see it is that everything goes in cycles so in 10 or 20 years, names like Sophia and Isabella are going to be considered run of the mill and names like Ashley and Jennifer will be the rarity.
