I was in Boston this weekend and with the big Bruins vs Montreal game we heard a lot of this from both sides. Why Habs? No one could answer us including people from Canada.
1. That is is short for les habitants, nickname for settlers in "new France" -which is Quebec, Canada.
2. The press got the the meaning of the "H" on their sweaters assbackwards years ago, thinking it stood for habitants. (It stands for Club du Hockey Canadien).
