I have an ikea dresser that I got 2nd hand before DH and I were even engaged. I never noticed a smell. Are you sure it's not just your super sniffing powers due to pregnancy?
We have the Malm, six drawer, in black brown. I think it is going to be a great dresser for a kid. (We LOVE Ikea)
Maybe it is my dog nose. My husband thinks I am crazy, but I swear it just has that kind of dusty, melamine smell. I just don't want to end up with smelly baby clothes!
we have a ton of ikea furniture- including new cribs and wardrobes for the twins room... the only smell i notice is a wood smell - doesn't bother me... and i'm sure will be gone soon as it's out in the open air.
i wouldn't put a lot of scented stuff in the nursery.... so don't go crazy with trying to get rid of that smell by adding other smells that might bother the baby.
Ours doesn't smell either. We have the Hemnes chest with 8 drawers in black brown. The quality is excellent in our opinion. We actually purchased it because it was big enough to hold our bedroom TV and still give us a great amount of storage.
Sorry that it smells. Try lavender sachets or potpourri pouches.
We have a white 3 drawer Hemnes. We bought it in January and there is a distinct smell to it, although I wouldn't say it's offensive. I also think our glider and crib have a similar smell. I have a super sensitive nose, always have, and it's even more sensitive during pregnancy. The nursery has been closed up to keep the cats out, but I've been leaving the windows open and fan on a lot now that it's warmed up to air out the room. I barely notice the smell now.
Maybe you could try airing out the room with the drawers open?
Our entire bedroom set is IKEA, it had a slight wood smell when we set them up but then just went away. ?Another idea is to put dryer sheets in the drawers.

We have had the Malm 4-drawer dresser for about 5 years now and I don't recall a smell. The only problem we've had with the dresseer is the drawer bottoms being too flimsy. They started bowing a couple years after we got it and it is frustrating because small things slide out the back. But I think if you were to use a wood glue to secure the bottoms into the sides it would help. Or just be careful not to put heavier items in them!
