Husband just got a note on facebook from a chick named Gisella. I was trying to find the good in the name - Gazelle, etc.

 

And then I said, "Maybe it's pronounce jizz-ella." And then we both laughed because we're immature.

 

Just had to share.

    There was a girl in my high school with this name and she pronounced it Geese-uh-la (like a Goose, but Geese). She was really dorky and rather large.

    I have a lot of friends with this name.  They all pronounce is Jee-say-ya.  But they're all Mexican so the "LL" becomes "Y".  When pronounced the Spanish way I think it's really pretty.  The American way- not so much!

    It's a fairly common Latino name, at least in my area.  It can be pronounced...

    Hee-sella (traditional) or Ji-sella.

    The name has grown on me.

    Famous, homewrecking Giselle :)  And it's a rather normal name in Spanish and Portuguese speaking places...not strange really at all...

    I may be alone here, but this name doesn't seem strange to me. I know there are bad potential nick names, but its not exactly a weird name.

    Not a fan of the association with a Victoria Secret model though.

    MUCH prettier in Spanish.

    And yes, I'm familiar with Giselle.

    I think it was my half asleep mis-pronounciation that did it in, though.

    giselle bundchen actually pronounces her name gis-ell-ee, not gis-ell. i wonder if anyone else with that name says it that way or just her?
