3rd Trimester

Braxton Hicks...

So in the last couple of weeks- I keep having this odd sensation on top of my belly.

It feels like a fist rolling around the top of my belly.  I was describing it to a friend who has two kids and she said that it is probbaly Braxon Hicks Contractions.

Anyone else?

Re: Braxton Hicks...

  • BH (for me) feels like my whole belly gets really hard for a few seconds, and it almost feels like a muscle spasm - not painful, but uncomfortable.

As far as a "fist rolling around" - could it be the baby moving?  Maybe his or her feet or butt, depending on how s/he is laying?

  • Are you sure it isnt your baby's foot or butt or head? Braxton hicks tighten my entire uterus. I can kind of knock on my belly - that's how hard it is. I'm not sure though. Is it your whole uterus or just the top?? How long does it last?
  • It's just the top on my belly- to the left.

It's always the same spot and it last on and off for hours.  I did not feel it at all for the last 3 days but here they are again tonight.

I am having a doc appointment on Tuesday so I will ask my doc but thought I would see what you guys say.

this is how i'd describe them. or at least what i *think* have been BH the past few days.

  • hmm... i guess i have the same question. ive been getting that rolling feeling but my whole belly gets hard. but not knock on it hard. and you can even see it kind of change shape as if she was sticking her butt out. ?it usually lasts about 30 seconds maybe? but i have been having them like everyday as of a week ago when they started. is that a braxton hick??

I have no clue. I do know that with my first pregnancy I was clueless about Braxton hicks. I always thought my daughter got really hard and bunched up, then my Dr. told me I was having braxton hicks contractions. So you could definitely be having them and not really knowing. Does it kind of make you catch your breath? Usually after I have one, my baby moves a lot. Maybe that is the rolling?

Totally!  That's about it!  I swear my belly was moved to the left the other day!  It'll be cool to ask the doc and find out if it's baby moving or BH.
By the way- baby is kicking up a storm right now!  : )
