Snarky and T-TTC

TI versus IUI?

so we have another RE appt tomorrow and we're going to talk about what to do next cycle (I know I'm not out this cycle but I did test this AM and got a BFN since I was going to the clinic for my cough from hell). When I had brought up the idea of IUI, my H kind of balked. He hates the whole CIAC (cumming in a cup, yeah I just made up a new acronym), although seriously, that's so much easier than what women go through.

Anyhow, I suggested TI to him last night with a trigger and clomid and he seemed much more into that (of course, since it doesn't involve him doing anything besides me). We've only got this one shot with this RE before we move and get put on a long wait list for a new RE (6-8 months). What would you do?

  • hmm, I might ask him to suck it up.

  • I would probably do the IUI because the success rate is higher and after doing all the meds, I would want the highest success rate possible. If it were MY, I would tell him to suck it up.

But you two need to make the decision ultimately. Good luck whatever you decide!

i agree.  is it possible that he can drop of his cup o' goodies to the office - as opposed to jerking off at the dr's office?  that made life a lot happier for us.

  • If it was me, I would go with an IUI.

  • I'm doing TI with clomid and trigger b/c of the same reason. DH didn't seem ready for it. I am so ready for IUI, but noooooo the one who doesn't have to stick themselves with the needle made the choice.Confused

Tell him to suck it up. Max out your chances before you leave!!! CIAC, MrQC!

yeah, that's what he's done with his SA's since we live 10 min from the hospital. I think I will try to convince him to go the IUI route.

  • Do you have any cm issues?

If not, I might give the TI a try.  But since you end up with a really long wait, I'd want to skip that in favor of IUI.

I guess if he can drop his goodies off, then he can suck it up.

no, that's one area that I'm okay in. But I think I will still see if I can get him on board with the IUI if I'm going to take the evil clomid.

  • if you only have one shot, I'd tell him he'd better learn to CIAC at least that once.

IUI at least for sure gets the sperm up where they need to be and less swimming time.

  • If you were not moving, i would suggest TI, but since you are moving and will have a long wait I would go with IUI and tell him to suck it up and deal.

  • I may be the odd man out, but I've always found that in the IF world, the more reticent person wins. Unless you can get him to CIAC, IUI may be out of the question and it might be easier to go with TI.
  • i would do iui, but i have first-hand experience with a husband who flat-out refused to jack in the cup.
  • What is TI?  Google isn't much help and it's not on the bump glossary either.

if you're on cycle 1, I wouldn't worry about it for a while.

I don't know if my chart shows it, but I have charts going back to April 2008.  =/

    But ttc #1 though.

I was just curious.  Whatever route you take, I wish you luck with it. Smile

    Thank you.

I had never heard of this before.  My best friend has been undergoing treatments since last summer (ttc for 2.5 years now) with 3 IUIs all resulting in bfn but she's never mentioned TI as an option.

  • If you're going to be on clomid, I'd do an IUI.  I just asked my RE about TI vs. IUI.  Since clomid can mess with your cm, he recommended doing an IUI.  Clomid + IUI has better success rates.  Good luck with whatever you choose!

Schotzie makes an excellent point I had not really considered before - IUI may be your best bet.

It may not be an option for her.  Some RE's prefer not to do TI on medicated cycles, because they feel IUI is a better option/more likely to result in pregnancy.  There may be sperm issues or cm or cervical issues which indicate regular intercourse is unlikely to result in pregnancy.
