Snarky and T-TTC

very upset

i just had my first appointment with the re today, i had done the sa and hsg before going there and he took alot of blood and a sonogram to see the quantity of eggs.  He explained that there can be many reasons for infertility and that i have two options, iui or ivf.  what i dont understand is why take all the blood work if you are pushing a solution when i might have another problem causing this infertility?  Anyone else go thru this.  i just didnt expect him to be asking me at the end of the appointment for my decision of what procedure i wanted.  i was really annoyed. I figure maybe after all the blood work comes back then we would go from there.  also has anyone done the clomid/iui?  how much did this run you. the ivf is so much money.  also are there any other treatments besides these two.  that are less invasive??  thank you

Re: very upset

  • Run, don't walk, to another RE. Sounds like this one is in it for the $. Any RE worth their salt will wait for results to come back before making any treatment suggestions.

  • My advice is to find a new RE. One that is willing to give you some answers as to why you are not getting pregnant and not push IUI/IVF.

I think she meant an antral follicle count, which can give a dr. an estimate of your ovarian reserve. However, this is not the only test that's done to determine ovarian reserve.

  • You definitely need to wait until the results come back in before coming up with a plan. You can try medicated cycles before moving to iui or ivf. If your RE doesn't support this, take your results elsewhere.

  • This was pretty much what my first RE did. He basically told me at our first appt not to come back for the testing until I was ready to do injectibles. Needless to say I ran away and never went back. Now I have a doctor that is more open to alternatives
