Girl Name

Thought I would post the newest name we have thought of Ayla (eye-la) or Laurenne.  Still can't decide.  Your thoughts?

Re: Girl Name

  • Isla and Lauren are both great names (although Isla seems to be getting pretty trendy right now).  Ayla and Laurenne look misspelled.

  • I think Ayla should be spelled Isla and Laurenne should be spelled Lauren.

Otherwise, I like Isla best :)

  • I think most will pronounce Ayla like AY-Luh (Kayla without the K), what about Isla for the EYE-Luh pronunciation?

  • I think ppl will pronounce Ayla as AY-la, as opposed to EYE-la, like Isla.

They are both nms. I do like Lila, Leila, Lorelei and Lauren though.

  • I don't like the spelling of ISLA because it reminds me of IS-LA and not of Ayla.  Laurenne would be said more of La wren...

Ditto, and I would pronounce Laurenne Laur-ENN.

  • I read ayla as meant but I knew a girl in school with the same spelling. I think Isla looks like or reminds me of island.   I'd prolly pronounce it as (Izla)

laurenne is spelled kinda funny unless it's supposed to be pronounced as Loreen which is how I read it. sorry but neither of them are my thing.

  • Thanks everyone.  We are really trying to find a cute girly girl name but its great to have everyones feedback :-).

this. isla is pretty but way overused and lauren is ok but not that spelling. what about laurel if lauren is too common?

  • Ayla is actually A-la but eye-la is spelt Isla and I love it.

If you want it pronounced like "la wren" then spell it that way. Laurenne  just prolongs the 'N' sound. It's way more likely to pronounced correctly if it is spelled correctly.

Ayla is pronounced 'A-la'. it is an entirely different name.  You are just setting your child up for a long life of correcting her name.

Laurenne does not produce "la wren". It's not naturally pronounced that way, which means she will have to correct people her entire life.?

    Exactly this... I love Lauren!

  • I don't like either name. Isla or Ayla are both bad. Laurenne is misspelled. Spell it Lauren or Laureen.?
  • I LOVE the name Ayla (but pronounced A-Lah like pp said)... if only I could get DH on board with this one! :)?

    ?

I don't really like Ayla pronounced Eye-la... nor do I like Isla...?

    ?

I don't mind the Laurenne spelling but... 1. she will have to spell her name out for everyone and 2. she will have to correct the pronunciation forever... I would say it "lor- een"...

  • I absolutely love Ayla.....we seriously considered but didnt want to deal with people always misprouncing or mispelling it.
