For those daycare moms with kids transitioning to toddler rooms, did you do anything at home to help them transition? DD is 14 mo and still takes two naps. She would be transitioning to the toddler room betw 16-18 months. They take one nap a day on cots with soft music playing. Did you try to help your DC transition at home? Was it hard for them to get used to napping on a cot vs. a crib? TIA!
Re: Another daycare ? - transition to cot?
At our daycare, the rooms are divided by age: Infants (up to 12 mo), Toddler (12-23 mo), 2 year olds, etc. DS was transitioned to the Toddler room at 11 months for various reasons. At first they still tried to give him 2 naps a day, but he just wasn't napping well at all. He didn't nap well in the infant room either...I think he just wants to get up and go while he's there. So we changed it to one nap a day and he does much better. He has some days where he's very tired at the end of the day, and he'll take a little cat nap in the car on the way home.
We did nothing different at home, in fact, on most weekend days, he still takes 2 naps a day. He pretty much asks for a nap himself these days, so we just follow his needs. We did nothing to prepare him for the cot either. The teachers told us they don't usually have a problem and they transition to cots pretty smoothly. When they first transition, they rock them to sleep or sleepiness before puttting them on the cot. He did great, was sleeping on the cot the 2nd day no problem!
Ditto to your first poster. He had no problems at all and we didn't do anything differently. He takes 2 naps at home in a crib, four days a week, and 1 nap at daycare on a cot, three days a week.
Both of my girls moved to the cot at 12 months with no issues. It is amazing what they do at school when they have the other kids around them doing the same. I was amazed at how easy it was for both my girls. The teacher in the Busy Baby room is great and if needed, will rub the kids back and places the cots in areas that she knows will be good for the kids. My older DD has never been a good naper at school (way to busy with everything and everyone else) adn her teachers (she is now in hte preschool room) always let her help put the other kids to bed (she loves to rub their backs) and she is one of the last to go down which helps her and she has her cot sort of away from anything that would distract her. My other DD is an awesome napper for the most part and tends to be one of the last kids up in her room. She has her cot placed in the corner and she sleeps with her lovey that she has at daycare (a stuffed Zebra that she fell in love with in the infant room and it comes with her wherever she goes). Both girls ahve special nap blankets. The center turns the lights low and has soft music playing in the background.
My yougner DD moved to 1 nap at 10 months on her own and my older DD moved to 1 nap when she was moved to the Busy Baby room and they nap only once a day. I always followed the schedule of daycare for naps and such since they are there 5 days a week and it works great.
