Snarky and T-TTC

UGH. Seriously?

One response from a post I responded to on BOTB this morning.  I went back to see if there were other responses and found this.  Makes me want to beat my head against a wall.

"We started in Oct 08.  In Feb and March I used OPK's.  I never ovulated.  I do not chart as I was taking the Princess route and seeing how it went before making that choice.  Since Sept I was having 28 day cycles, this month it was 35 days.  I called the dr and she is already going to start testing on me.  She doesn't need charts to show anything she said.  If you like and trust your dr ask them how they would handle infertility, if they would need charts, if you need to wait a year, etc.  Whatever choice you make, make it yours and your husbands.  Good luck to you!"

Sooooo, the opk never caught a surge (which may not happen if you only test once a day, and even if it did it doesn't guarantee ovulation), and the cycles were perfect 28 days (even though they are supposedly anovulatory), but this one wasn't, so even though it's in a normal range, her doc agreed testing was in order?

Blech.

My theory about how things like that really go down is that the person calling throws a temper tantrum about getting tested and the doc agrees, "fine we can do some basic b/w".

My OB/GYN was so so hesitant to send me to an RE even with all signs pointing to endo.

Even if you get a +OPK it still doesn't mean you DID O, WTF would negative OPKs = no O????

  • Yeah I tried to tell a friend with PCOS that using opk's will only tell you that you might O you have to chart to know if you did O for sure. She is still not charting. I tried.

  • And opk's aren't recommended for women with PCOS.  Sigh.  It says it in the packet that comes in the box.

  • that is so wrong.  On so many levels.   For one, she's going to her doc with completely inaccurate info.

I charted along with OPKs early on.   The first 5 months of OPK's were all negative for me.   Didn't get a + until the 6th month.   But thanks to charting, I know I O'd every cycle.

    Ugh is right!

I totally missed that story. Holy moley.

  • I don't understand why she is calling the doctor - because one cycle was six days longer than the first six cycles? Both my RE and my OB/GYN told me that I have been ovulating w/out looking at my charts - they said that based on having regular cycles. And by regular, I mean btwn 24 & 32 days.

  • I love how doctors assume you are Oing just because your cycles aren't a million days long. I mean, I can maybe see some logic in that, but not really.

I had my annual at about 11 months of trying and my obgyn wouldn't even set up an appt to talk about anything, she wanted me to wait until the year mark.  She would have laughed me out of the office at 6 months.

(that said, I'm slightly looking forward to my annual this year where I can ask her if shes still "confident" I'll get pregnant on my own if I'm "patient and just keep trying".  I'm really only resentful because she told me I needed to be patient about a million times. And for a Dr to be confident about something like that prior to any testing makes me wonder a bit.)

  • I dunno, I'm pretty confident that everyone else will get KTFU before me and i don't know any of their test results. LOL
