Breastfeeding

1st Baby Breast Pump Question

So I am having our first baby in August and was working on our baby registry and was wondering if I needed a breast pump. I am planning on trying to breastfeed but I will be going to work after my maternity leave is up so I would think I would need one for her infant care right? If so, does anyone have any good suggestions of what brand they used or works best and what else I may need?

Thank you so much for the advice!

Re: 1st Baby Breast Pump Question

  • The best advice I got was use the hospital rental pump for a month or two before investing in a pump. Depending on your supply and how breastfeeding goes, you may not want a pump for yourself just yet... If it doesn't go well, you may not be able to resell or return the pump, because it is considered a hygiene issue.

That said, I have the Medela Freestyle, which is a hands-free model. I have also heard great things about the Pump in Style... GL and congratulations!

  • I have the Medela Pump In Style and I love it. I breasfeed all the time but I have a stockpile of milk in the freezer just in case I am not home and he gets hungry. We give him a bottle a day so he gets used to it. I also plan on pumping and giving him bottles after I don't want to bf anymore. I wouldn't rent, that's just me... other people using them, no thanks! It was very helpful in the begining too when I had so much milk it hurt! Good luck!!
