Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Ohhh! That's what he's trying to tell me!

DS made up his own signs for "all done" and "more".  It's great!  However, lately, I've been confused, because he will sign "all done" and immediately follow it with "more" when he's eating.  He'll do it over and over.  For the longest time, I thought that maybe he was getting the two signs confused.

Finally figured it out today.  He's saying "I'm all done with that bite, give me another!"

Not sure why it took me that long to figure it out.

  • Man I wish I would have taught Nicholas these more sophisticated signs. His all done is to throw his plate on the floor.

That's great that he's able to "tell" you what he wants and cute that he put the two together. He's compound-signing. LOL

  • We taught our son those signs as well.  I was in the same boat thinking he had them confused.  One day he came up to me and was signing more and please back and forth....I decided to stand up and see if he would lead me to what he wanted.  He took me over to our end table in the living room and started looking up at it signing more and please...I was like what in the world?! I soon realized that there was a bowl of his snacky foods sitting back in the corner.  I grabbed it and put some snacks on the coffee table to see if that would do the trick...sure enough he was as satisfied as can be.  All he wanted was for me to get his snacks down so he could eat more.  It was so neat that he was able to communicate as much as he could in order to get what he wanted.  I was so proud of him!
