3rd Trimester

Baby Grace has arrived!! Birth Story and PIP

Wanted to let you all know that I had my daughter, Grace Elisabeth on 4/20/09 @ 8:37am. She was 7lbs, 9oz and 19 inches long. She got 9/9 on her Apgars.

Birth Story:

Scheduled induction @ 38 wks 1 day due to high BP and risk for Pre-E. Got to the hospital @ 5:30pm ish, got checked and was 3cm, 80% effaced and -3 station.

Decided to start the pitocin @ 8pm and not do any cervadil since I was already 3cm and pretty thinned out.

U/S showed that she was going to be a pretty small baby (which is why growth u/s are a crock. ;) )

At 12:15 they broke my water... It was such a HUGE gush, they were even surprised and I continued to have gushes for the next couple hours.

I was surprisingly VERY calm throughout my labor- I'm typically a worry-wart and complete control freak so I think everyone (including myself!) was pleasantly surprised!!

My contractions started to pick up, but weren't really regular. I decided around 3am to get the epidural moslty so I could sleep and have enough energy to push when it was time.

Got that and was feeling NO pain! :) Soooo worth it.

Napped from 4:40- 6amish.

Woke and they checked me again. 6cm, 100% thinned out and -2 station.

Around 7am I started feeling horrible pressure in my pelvis- I was SURE that I had to push, but my mom told me I was crazy. I got a new nurse for change over and warned her that I was NOT comfortable. Tried to boost the epidural, but all it did was numb my legs more and they told me after a bit that it wouldn't help the pressure. It was SO hot in my room (80 degrees!) and I was getting really cranky and I sooo wanted to push.

The resident came and checked me at 7:30 and I was indeed 10 cm!! My advice to anyone is- YOU know your body and you will know for sure when you're ready to push!

They called my doc, she was in route and they got me set to start practice pushing. The nurse told me then that it could be 2-3 hrs of pushing since it was my first.

Doc arrived around 8:10am, I had already done a few pushes and was checked just before she arrived and was 0 station. They checked me once she walked in (she didn't even have her scrubs on yet!) and I was +2!!

She ran and changed, came back and I pushed a total of 6 times and out came my baby girl!

I have a 2nd degree tear, a hemroid the size of a giant grape and I'm still super sore. This is the stuff no one fails to mention. ;) My doc said there wasn't even a way she could have done an episiotmy because it all literally happened so fast.

I'm so in love with my baby- and even more so with my DH. It's a great feeling and enjoy the first couple days. I was lucky to be released only 28 hours after I had her, so I've been able to rest and relax more now that I am in my own house!

I wish the rest of you a wonderful last trimester and happy and healthy deliveries!
