We purchased our furniture at Lil Deb n Heir in Naperville on Ogden Avenue. While the customer service was not the most attentive the furniture was delivered early and they have great prices. One store quoted up to a 6 month wait for our Munire furniture and we had ours in the nursery thanks to Lil Deb n Heir in under a month!
We got our furniture from Buy Buy Baby in Downers Grove on Butterfield. They had a lot of options and the furniture was nicely constructed. My suggestion is to open all the drawers and hit them with your fist. We didn't go with anything from Babies r Us because when we did this, it seemed as if everything was too flimsy and poorly made of particle board.
We went with Baby Appleseed, the Davenport Collection. Here is the link to their site:
We live in the city and looked at Lil' Deb'n'Heir in Naperville and Lazar's in Lincolnwood as well as Babies'R'Us.
We bought all of our furniture (Meuniere crib and Best Chair glider) and Valco stroller at Lazar's. They are not on comission and knowledgable about the furniture are not pushy at all. Most of the sales people we worked with were parents or grandparents themselves.
Our furniture was in early and although we picked it up, we could have had it delivered and assembled for $100-$200 which would be worth it if you have more furniture.
Also, another option if price is an issue is Crib & Bed Outlet in Lombard. We got a Mondi crib for a great price and we also bought the floor model of the glider/ottoman since they were on sale. The delivery is less than desirable; but the prices are excellent and they carry wonderful brands like Munire, Mondi, etc.
We got our crib at Buy Buy Baby and used a BRU 20% off coupon so that was great. You can check out Little Deb N Heir for ideas, but I would buy elsewhere. We got the EXACT same chair for a good $200 less at the Crib Outlet in Lombard mentioned above. Considering we still paid almost $500 for it I'm glad we went elsewhere since it is ordered direct from the manufacturer by both stores anyways (Best Chair).
We got Munire crib and dresser. We looked at it at Lil Deb n Heir but called the USA Baby up in Wisconsin and they quoted us a much better price and deliver to Chicago.

Ditto this. We spent a little more money, but the furniture at Buy Buy Baby was a lot sturdier than at Babies R Us. We figured DD would use this furniture for a long time (crib converts to bed), so we wanted something that would last. We got Westwood.
