Rubella vaccination??? Should I delay IVF?

So I just got a call from my RE office that my blood work came back that I never was vaccinated for Rubella? They said that I did not have to get vaccinated before moving forward with IVF but if I did contract early in pregnancy it is really bad for the baby. So if I do get the vaccination I have to delay IVF for a month? I need advice...what would you do? The chances of contracting it are slim but the outcome of contracting it could be devestating?

This happened to me before IUIs. I opted to have the immunization. It delayed things a month b/c its a live virus. You cannot ttc for I think 4-6 weeks until you test again and you have the immunity. I debated about not doing it b/c I thought it was super rare but my RE had some more recent local info to indicate that there had been incidents in my area in the last 3-5 years. Otherwise, don't get it but you will have to get it post partum.

That surprises me that your RE will let you continue without it. My RE said we would have had to wait if I didn't have the vaccine.

I would probably get it just to be on the safe side.

I know the more I think about the more I think it would be selfish not to wait and get the shot...What if? Is all I can think about!

The same happened to me and I'm quite surprised your RE is ok with going forward the IVF...I took the vaccine and had to wait 3 months before TTC again...The wait was a little upsetting but I don't regret it because now I"m sure that if there's an outbreak I'm pretty much protected...If I were you I would get the vaccine and wait the time that is recommended...

I had the same issue but didn't get the vacination. My RE made me sign a piece of paper saying I knew the risks. I did research and there was one documented case of someone contracting Rubella in the United States while pregnant in the last three years. One case... in all of the United States.

I know that I was vaccinated as a child. If I had been able to find that piece of paper saying so then they wouldn't have even tested me.

Thanks everyone! I decided to wait and get the vaccine. I go Monday for the vaccination then I have to wait a month before I go back in the office. But then my drs office (as I am sure others do too) have down times so I may have to wait extra time to get on the next IVF cycle. I am really upset about the delay but I just want to play it safe. I also kinda wonder why they did not test this before my IUIs? As always it is always so nice to come on here and see that I am not the only person who had this little road block.

I got the vaccination and had to wait 3 months to actively TTC per my ob/gyn, but most things that I had read said that waiting 1 month was advised. I had the vaccination as a child, but was no longer immune.

The same thing happened to me when I had b/w at the RE's office. They told me to have it done at Quest where they use a different assay. I know I had the vaccine and you probably did too, they just weren't able to detect it in the workup they did. I had the test done at Quest and sure enough, it showed up. I'd ask to have it done somewhere else before proceeding with getting the vaccine again.
