I can't decide, they both look the same to me except that Viacord invests in research and CBR doesn't. From a service standpoint I can't find any differences...anyone have any insight?
You may want to see what your doc and/or hospital recommend. I believe the nurses in our hospital have a preference for Viacord, as does our doc -- maybe they're trained in it. Or maybe they're just get some kind of kick back ... lol.
Here's the differences that we learned - hope it helps!
CBR has had successful transplants in the treatment of brain injuries in kids - like cerebral palsy. Viacord doesn't mention its use in this area on its website at all.
Also, from a service standpoint, CBR will collect the info directly from your doctor's office - there's very little setup for the patient. Its my understanding that with Viacord, you have to be the go between from them and the doc.
You can tell, we chose CBR but probably more quickly just b/c I found the Viacord rep to be very pushy on the phone and he kept trying to get me to sign up by saying I was cutting it close time wise - and from working at the hospital, I just knew that wasn't true.
We went with CBR because our doc keeps the kits in the office, so we don't have to worry about bringing one to the hospital with us. I don't really think there's much of a difference.
I have friends who are in the private equity world and when they had their baby, they analyzed both companies from a financial standpoint. They concluded that CBR was in better shape than Viacord (or had a better business model). But the main reason I am going with CBR is that I am having twins, and apparently CBR can collect more blood in that situation than Viacord can.
We used CBR for our first child and all went smooth. ?They even sent a "Where's Baby's Belly Button? book for his first birthday. ?I thought that was a nice touch.
Re: Re cord blood banking- Viacord or CBR?

Anyway, just my two cent. Hope it helps.
