Baby Names

I need serious middle name help :)

My grandma was Dorothy Mae and she passed away 6 weeks ago.  I suggested Dorothea or Mae as a middle name to honor her... but I really don't love either name

My H suggested just using the first initial (D or M) to honor her- he is Jewish so I guess this is common, but I have a very hard time wrapping my head around that being an honor-  no offense to those of Jewish faith, just not what I am used to.

Any opinions/thoughts/suggestions?

thanks :)

  • I really like Mae. How about Emery Maeve...its and increasingly popular name and would have your grandmothers name in it.

  • There may be a few more creative ways to incorporate either name as a FN or MN... what about -

    Dora/Dorah

    Dorie

    Dee (Pop NN for Dorothy)

    Thea (possible MN?)

    Maeve

    Maeson, Maesyn

    Maecy, Macey

    Maerin

    Maegan

  • Other variants:

    Dolly, Dot, Dotty and Doria.

    Maelle, Maemi and Maelynn.

  • Daphne, Dahlia, Dalilah.
    Mae, Maeve, Maude.

I would personally use Mae as a middle name though. I love that name. Good luck!

  • Oh good! Good luck. I look forward to hearing what you decide!

I understand where you are coming from. Dh's grandma is Ruth and I adore her so we are naming our daughter after her. I don't love Ruth for a middle name, but the meaning is important so we are going with it. Just using R doesn't seem like it's honoring her so I completely get what you are saying.

I'd use Dorothy or Mae. I actually think Mae is an adorable middle name. ?

  • I'd use Mae. It goes well w/ so many names. I love it spelled that way too (as opposed to May.)

  • i liked Mae and was all for it- but my H HATES it, he thinks it is way too southern/hickish  (his opinion- not mine), and that it is one of those names that gets used with the first name a lot- and he just hates it.  I don't get it either.

i am really feeling Maegan now though
