Of course I'll double check, but I think I remember reading that you need to follow the same rules while breastfeeding as while pregnant.
Hot weather makes me not want to eat dinner... but sushi is the only exception! I'm craving it SO bad! What will I do without sushi all summer?!
Anyone know off hand what the rules are??
Re: The rules for sushi while BF'ing?
I don't but www.kellymom.com is great for FAQ's.
Yes; just make certain that you are comfortable with the source and care of the raw fish (reputable sushi bars are very careful about this). Like any raw food, sushi can carry carry parasites or a bacteria called listeria monocytogenes (see below for more on listeriosis), and some species of fish should be avoided due to mercury levels. The consensus among breastfeeding experts seems to be that eating raw-fish-sushi doesn't pose a problem for a breastfeeding baby (though it has the potential to make mom sick).

My all-Asian OB practice says they wouldn't dream of prohibiting sushi in the Bay Area where it's a cultural norm--just to be careful about it being as fresh as possible.
If you normally go to a place with super fresh fish (and you live near the CA coast, so there's a pretty good chance!) and you're willing to take the risk, I say go for it.
Yes, of course you can eat sushi while BFing. I did. LOTS
Just watch your mercury intake.
As I (non-medical person) understand it:
While you're PG, there are some bacteria/parasites/other things that can cross the placental barrier and affect the fetus that could be in raw fish. Once it is out, those bacteria and parasites can not get to the baby. So, soft cheeses, lunch meat, and raw fish are all back on.
