I'm posting this on the third trimester board, because I though you guys would know more about this then second tri......
So I have to go back for another ultra sound in two weeks. The doctor said I have a low lying placenta. She didn't seem too concerned about it. So stupid me, I come home and start researching it. So now I'm all paranoid! Stupid Web MD!! Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, did it cause any problems. The doctor said mine might go away as my uterus grows. So no heavy lifting.....which I can't do anyway since I pulled a muscle in my back, and no sex until either the placenta moves up, or the baby is born.
Re: Low Lying Placenta issue...
I had placenta previa which is where the placenta either touches the edge or covers the cervix. I was diagnosed at 18 weeks and it turned to low lying placenta at 28 weeks- meaning it moved away from the cervix. While it was placenta previa I was on pelvic rest- no sex, no heavy lifting, no exercise. Now that it is just low lying placenta, I am free to have sex and do housework again but only very light exercise. I would call your doc to get exact instructions on what you can and can't do. Hope that helps!
Thanks!! I think I might give my doctor a call to get more specific instructions. I think yesterday I was just trying to process everything all at once.
You're welcome! I did the same thing at first, which is when I called my doc for specifics. Everything I found online just scared the hell out of me. Good luck!
My placenta was completely covering my cervix at 20 weeks, and I was put on pelvic rest and no heavy lifting, went back 4 weeks later and it had moved enough to be considered a "low lying" placenta. Went back again 4 weeks later and it was completely moved, my Dr. wanted it at least 3 cm from the cervix to rule out a c-section.
I really would not worry about it - I think like 80% of placentas move as your grow. I was freaked out at first too, but my Dr. was also not concerned and she was right. I haven't come across a single person that hasn't had their placenta move.
same thing here. was told at 20 weeks I had a low lying placenta, but that most cases resolve on their own. at my 28 week ultrasound, the issue had fixed itself.
I had low lying placenta at my 20 week. They said if it didn't move up I'd need a c section. Resolved itself by 28 week u/s. I asked OB if he'd ever seen a low lying placenta become any MORE low-lying and he said in over 25 years, no.
I too, was diagnosed with a low lying placenta after my 20 week ultrasound.
We were blessed to find out we are having a girl, Emma = ) But I was overly worried when I heard the news. They also said they found an unknown tissue as well.. But when they did another ultrasound they could not find it.
I will be getting a 3d more extensive ultrasound done in two weeks. Praying the tissue is gone.. and this low lying placenta isn't life threatening.
