Toddlers in cabs in chicago....

Hi there Chicago nesties! Question for you...if you have a toddler, do you use cabs to get around? We're coming in town in a few weeks, and I was hoping to avoid bringing a carseat with us...but now it looks like because of the time we get in, and leave - we're going to have to cab it to and from the airport (I had planned to take the el). Is it even legal for cabs to take you and a 2 year old without a carseat? Just wondered how any of you handled getting around in cabs with your toddler. Thanks so much for your help or any suggestions :)

Re: Toddlers in cabs in chicago....

  • Hi there.  I've never taken my children in a cab (nor have I seen any kids in a cab come to think of it), but I'd imagine that a carseat is required since it is the law (at least for babies I know it is).  I do have some suggestions though, I know that car rental companies have carseats that you can rent with cars.  Maybe you could call them and ask if you can just rent a carseat.  Otherwise, I'm sure if you "ordered" a car to take you to and from the airport that you could request one as well (as in a towncar with a driver, I mean).  I'm not sure if you're familiar with Chicago, but both airports are about 30 minutes from downtown without traffic - could take triple that during rush hour.  So, it's not like it's just a quick cab ride to/from the airport.  Good luck.

  • I hope this isn't too late, but commercial vehicles do not require a car seat by law, so you can legally put him/her on your lap on the ride to and from the airport.
