Babies: 9 - 12 Months

How much do you pay for daycare in your area?

Currently, my mom, MIL, and my aunt take turns watching DD. Its great because she is around family, but DH and I want to start putting her in daycare soon so she can socialize with other kids her age. I looked into a few options here, and I'm leaning to one in particular. For 3 days from 8-6 its about $800/month. I think if she were to go full-time, it would be around $1250 or so a month. Just wondering if that's normal. I know it all depends on where you live, so I'd just like an idea of what other nesties pay for daycare.

  • DD goes two days a week @ $40/day for a total of $320/month.  It was one of the least expensive places we looked, and they were one of the few daycares to offer part-time care.  The other daycare centers in my area run about $200/week.

  • I pay $100/week, but I live in a LOC area.
  • It is about $200 per week for full time which is 4-5 days. Part time is not much cheaper at about $160 per week.

  • When DD was still in  daycare, i paid $182/week.

ETA: that was for full time as well, they didnt offer part time for infants.

  • When DS was in daycare we paid 333/week for 5 days.  We live in Mass near Boston and daycare rates are very high.
  • $205/week for 2 days (10 hour day). Crazy.

  • We live right outside NYC - $1625 per month - YIKES!
  • We just came off the waitlist but are deferring a few months because DH is home recovering from ankle surgery - freaking $1800/month.  And no discounts for multiple children.  Daycare in my area is insane.  If we lived further out (from DC), it would be much better.
  • Suburbs of NYC, $1400 a month full time. Thank god we only have to send him 3 days, but it's still $1000!

Places we looked at were about the same, and if you wanted p/t it was $100 a day... I would have been better off SAH at that rate! Thank goodness I found a friend who will watch her for $40 a day.

  • $220 a week for full time.  But its the most expensive place in my area.  They have cameras to be able to watch your children during the day and a double keypad entry system.
  • We pay $228 a week and he is there 8:00 - 5:00 M-F.  We live in a fairly LCOL area.
  • Well, my husband just lost his job last week...so we had to let our nannies (one of which is my sister) go, but we were paying $280/week for 4 days (I'm off on Mondays).

I recently looked into daycares around here because I was curious and it looks like they run about $240 - $280 week for 5 days for babies Ben's age.  Younger babies are about $20/week more.

  • South Georgia-- we have private in home and it is 85 per week. Daycares here run 60-105 depending on the faciltiy and the age of the child.
  • I live about 20mi south of Boston and we pay $190 a week for three days( about $760). I looked at places that were closer to Boston where I work and they wanted $1300 a month for 3 days a week. In the end we choose the place we are at because it is really close to home and I may not always be working in Boston.

  • We live in the Twin Cities, MN and pay $155 for an in home daycare.  That is really on the low end.  All the other ones I called were about $200-$225.

  • I live in Illinois and pay $25 per day. Since I have 2 kids in daycare I pay $45 per day. We do part time with her.(3-4 days per week) She is a private in home day care. We were looking at another day care provider and she wanted $23 per day for one dc but had to be full time
  • $207/ week, for 5 days per week. I live in Iowa.
  • I use an in home daycare provider.  I think it's the better way to go with DS being so young.  I plan on putting him in an actual daycare probably after a couple years and then preschool so he can socialize with more kids and everything.  Right now he goes 3 days a week and it's $30/day.
