I thought we were supposed to avoid soft serve ice cream due to the listeria risk? I have been dying for a milkshake from McD's, but I'm pretty sure they use soft serve...
Plus there's always places like BR, Coldstone, etc that will make a "real" milkshake with regular ice cream. I believe Carls Jr. does as well, but I can't remember...
I've said it before here but all this paranoia is strictly an American thing. Pregnant woman all over the world are eating soft cheeses and lunch meats and soft serve and are just fine.
I avoid lunch meats because I am not a fan of nitrates but I will never give up my frozen yogurt.

I do not think the risk from soft serve ice cream is listeria. ?Soft serve ice cream is not on my doctor's do not eat list. ?However, I have heard that people think those machines are dirty and you could get sick from them, so I do try to avoid soft serve, although I have had it a few times while pregnant and have been fine. ?
I get weekly emails from babycenter.com and recently one of the emails talked about pregnant women worrying so much about what they eat - and the doctor said the risk of getting hurt in a car accident is a lot higher than the risk of getting sick from soft cheese, and you don't see pregnant women stop driving. ?I thought that helped put things in perspective for me. ??
My obstetrician's office recommends that pregnant women avoid soft serve ice cream (which includes fast food milkshakes) due to the possible risk of listeria from poorly cleaned machinery.
It's completely up to you if you decide to follow your OB's guidelines.

Don't worry about it, I'm avoiding listeria-susceptible foods, too. Don't let these girls make you feel bad for doing what you think is right for your baby.
Re: Milkshakes
Uh oh....I see two things wrong with this post.

Everything in moderation!
Good grief, does freaking EVERYTHING have a listeria risk?
Seriously, I'll lay off yellowfin sashimi, but I'll be damned if I can't pull through Arby's for a Jamocha shake during an ice cream emergency.

I'm not even going to comment on your question.
:::spits water out:::
Soft serve is not on my "bad foods" list so I've eaten it several times.
LOL, sorry to hit a nerve. I love ice cream as much as everyone else!
