Travel & flight must-have's??

For anyone who has had to fly with DC, and traveled for a week or more, what were the best and most important items you packed for DC?  We are going to NYC next month and DS will be 7 months old.  I would appreciate any suggestions.  TIA

  • At that age the Bjorn hands down was the most useful. When we traveled with DD at that age we did not pack, diapers, wipes, or formula. We bought that all there.

Be very very prepared on the plane. Twice we got stuck overnight in a hotel without our luggage. Take tons of extra diapers, outfits for both you and your child, and food/formula. I always took enough for three days for DD and we needed it both of those times.

  • where will you be staying? You'll need a crib or a pack n play.

for the plane ride, make sure you pack a change of clothes for DS to carry on board. Make sure you also have a change of clothes for YOU on the plane ... it never fails that the poop explosion happens at 37,000 feet.

buy a new toy or a book and don't take it out until you're on the plane. If you can, choose the last flight of the night ... there will be less people and DS is more likely to sleep.

don't be afraid to ask for help from the flight crew but don't be surprised if they are nasty about it.

  • If your child uses a pacifier, a pacifier clip is totally worth it.

Also some sanitizing wipes for the changing pad- because airport bathrooms are the most disgusting places on the planet.

  • I just got back from a long weekend trip and used lots of ziplock bags. They were great for dirty clothes from blowouts, dirty bottles, and organizing everything. Bring more than you think you need!
